Has anyone applied to UTMB's Summer Program? I have applied but still have not heard anything yet. I was a bit concerned because I had heard that they were not going to be accepting students due to the hospital being closed down and their doubts of rebuilding.
Is anyone attending UTMB and has heard this information as well? Any information will really help!
Thanks

I just got accepted into the Spring 2009 program. You will not hear anything for a looooong time. For example, I got my interview letter in November, my acceptance letter the first week of December, and the program starts in January!!!! So, expect to wait awhile-the program is not cancelled, but the admissions process moves slowly.
Oh wow! Thank you so much for all of your help. I was getting very concerned because I was not hearing anything. That really helps me a lot.
Thanks a lot!
No problem! Let me know if you have any other questions =)

Just curious how the Spring 2009 at UTMB is going? Do you like the schedule and are you able to do your clinicals close to home? I applied for Summer 2009 program and they said they would let us know by end of March being of April and program starts May 4. So I will have a month to quit my job but I have to find someone first, train them then I can leave. ARe your books expensive?
We were notified by e-mail about acceptance 3 weeks before the program started. Some people got phone calls a week before. The schedule is...let's just say you have to be FLEXIBLE. It's extraordinarily unorganized. We literally got to clinical rotations and no one was there and the hospital coordinator didn't even have dates of when we were supposed to be there so we were double-booked with 2 other schools. We're also supposed to have preceptors (Nurses whose schedule we work, one-on-one, and the hospital wasn't told about that either-still no word on what is going to happen with that). We will regularly get e-mails changing exam times and classrooms, etc., and sometimes you have to submit documents like your CPR card and immunizations 4 different times because people just lose them. Just be prepared for disorganization-you really need to be on top of everything yourself.
I spent about $1,000 on books and the PDA/uniforms this first semester, and I went through discounts like amazon.com. I don't know how much it cost for people who bought everything new. We are also expected to buy around $300 worth of books for the summer term.
Hope that helps!
Also, yes, we are mostly able to do clinicals close to where we live. It really depends on who is in your class, where they live, and which hospitals agree to work with us. Most of my class lives in Galveston, so there weren't enough spots at UTMB, so some have to do clinicals at the TDCJ (texas department of criminal justice aka jail). As for those who live in Houston, we all pretty much got our top 1-2 choice hospital. It depends.
Raconteur,
Did anyone that didn't get invited to an interview get called or get granted admission to the Nursing Program?
