As somebody who finished my BSN outside U.S., this thread is to seek the experiences of students and/or future students in applying for MSN-FNP program in UTMB, specifically for Fall of 2018.

Hello! I just started my MS in Nursing FNP application in UTMB last week. As somebody who did not finish my BSN degree inside the U.S., I can pretty much say I do not have a lot of knowledge about applying in the universities here. So this thread is really about asking what are your experiences in applying for the MSN program in UTMB. But first, let me give you a background about myself.

I am a U.S. citizen. I finished my BSN degree in the Philippines on March 2014. I Flew here in Texas on May 2014. I started my career as a Registered Nurse (Dec. 2014) as a Hemodialysis-RN. So far I have been working as an RN for 3 years now. During that whole 3 years, I advanced my career as a staff nurse to being a charge nurse. And now I am a clinical coordinator in my facility for almost 8 months now. Soon I would like to advance as a facility administrator/manager, and if I get accepted to graduate school, I can both do work and school at the same time and progress as a Family Nurse Practitioner (if God allows).

I first tried to apply to University of Texas-Arlington for their MSN-Administration program last year. I submitted my official transcript of records to them only to find out that they are requiring me to take the GRE exam. I pulled out my application there because of other reasons and I honestly did not feel the need for me to take the GRE (Sorry, lame excuse but I do not like to go back to studying Math again). I am not quite sure if they told me my equivalent GPA when they evaluated my OTR, but I think it was not enough that's why they want me to take the GRE.

I stopped thinking about applying for MSN and got very busy with work, until recently my sister told me about UTMB in Galveston. She told me that it's not that expensive in UTMB, and they do not require GRE. Among the affordable and great schools who offer the MSN program, so far UTMB is the only one I saw that only needed one professional letter of reference. I am currently in the process right now of having my tertiary institution send my official transcript of records to UTMB's credentialing service. Honestly, it kind of feels like a bummer to me that I graduated outside U.S. and that I worry if my GPA will not meet their criteria. I was not on top of my class but definitely not at the bottom. So if I don't get the minimum GPA required (which is 3.0) based on the US standards to get accepted, it would make me sad. I don't have any problem with taking the IELTS/TOEFL since I have verified to them that I can submit my other applications by January 15 and I can take my IELTS/TOELF exam before the fall program starts.

UTMB's deadline for all NP programs for Fall 2018 is this January 15, 2018. Sending the OTR from the university I graduated might take a month to get to their credentialing service.

I would like to know everybody else's experience applying to UTMB so far. Applicants who studied outside U.S. would help a lot. Applying makes it very anxious and would like to talk to people here. Also, if you have any other school recommendations that are affordable and excellent, please feel free to comment down below and let me know what your experience was with them. It would help me a lot.

Thank you!

I just finished applying to the program about two weeks ago and already received admission today! Luckily, their program is a little easier to apply to. Have you received any information yet? I would definitely like to speak with others that will be attending their program.

Congrats on admission

I got my letter too. :) I am very excited!

Congratulations!! Hopefully we will find some others soon!
