I worked in UR for two years, but that was three years ago. To make myself more marketable, I thought about taking the CPUR exam. McKesson has a self study guide for $150. If I actively pursued it, how fast could I finish it? Also, can I buy it somewhere cheaper and McKesson still recognize the self study? Any thougts/ideas on re-entering this field will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just started a UR hospital job after 27 years of floor nursing. Does anybody know of any books or guides that can help me learn some tricks to this job? It's so different from what I'm used to that I feel like I'll never get it. Any advice or ideas out there or any web sites with tips? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am an utilization nurse x 3 years, and about 6 months ago, I changed jobs and now work for a hospital facility that is using McKesson InterQual. I need help! Is there anything out there to self-educate me on CPUR? Where can I get a study guide? The web-site was based for facilities so I feel lost as an individual contributor. I hate feeling dumb!
You can get a self study guide from the website. Go to the website and in the box with orange lettering click on Registration Information. Scroll down to Examination Options. There you will find a self study guide for $150. McKesson's # is 1-800-522-6780 M-F 0800-1730 EST. Good luck.
Has anyone out there purchased the Mekesson self study guide for $150, is it worth it??
I also found out that you do not have to attend their seminars. You can send McKesson the fee for testing, the name of a college/library facility, name of proctor, address, phone # and they will mail directly to the proctor who can give you the test. 1-800-522-6780 Ext 3137 and his name was Tom.

I took the Mckesson CPUR class, it was 2 - half day classes. But don't expect to learn much about day to day UR in the acute setting.
