Utica University ASBN Albany

Published

Does anyone know about Utica's asbn nursing program? I have heard a lot of bad things but I am very interested in the program if anyone could help!

Specializes in Current ABSN student.

Girl... simple answer, just don't! I currently attend the Latham campus, am in semester 3 out of 4, and am a near straight A student. The promise support throughout the admissions process and then it is nowhere to be found when students actually need it. The policies are absurd and truly set students up to fail and have to retake semesters. I would not recommend this to my worst enemies and would advise you and aspiring nurses against it. Just take a peek at the student handbook and understand that the school is not understanding that we are humans at the end of the day and that sometimes life happens.

Here is a review I submitted regarding one of my clinical courses:

Support your students as if you care that they arrive safely and alive....
In the real world, you will not lose your job bc you get stuck in traffic or have a stomach bug/cold that is not worth going to the doctors for.
Even our clinical instructors mention that during bad weather conditions they will call out of work, without being fired.
CARE ABOUT YOUR STUDENTS! This program is perceived as a money-grab set up to make students fail so that the university can steal MORE money from the students already paying $70K!
The guidelines to be eligible to have your case even heard regarding an absence/tardy >5min  is written so that your chances are extremely low to have the chance to make up an absence.
In our clinical orientation call, while students have expressed they received academic alerts for being in the car while on the call, in the same call we were told to take a picture of traffic/accident if that is the cause of a tardy.... either care about our safety or don't! Also, will the university be paying for the tickets received because we are required to have "documentation" or pay for an urgent care visit because... AGAIN we are required to have "documentation".
Also, to act as though in the real world we (as nurses) wouldn't be able to give a workplace our work availability is insane. And to think we would NEED to put up with an employer treating us in a way similar to the university is blatantly untrue and most employees would not accept this kind of treatment and disregard for our lives.
This program sets students up to fail and have to continue to give the school more money... DISGUSTING!
The program does not care about student well-being and/or physical and mental health.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM TO ANY ASPIRING NURSES!!

Attached is the clinical attendance policy alone.

I got accepted into the program and am very conflicted based on the reviews I've heard. It sucks that there is a lack of support from faculty, but would you be able to elaborate on if it is doable and how the lecture/study materials guide student learning for exams. Do you feel as though with the online courses, clinical labs and clinical experience that you can be a good nurse after all is said and done? Just curious since you are almost done with the program. Would you also be able to elaborate on what specialties are done at which hospitals? If you don't feel comfortable responding publicly, maybe you can PM me? I'd really love to find out more about the program and can't seem to find anyone else that will discuss it honestly and more in depth before I invest my time and money into this program.

I'm looking for the same info!

can yall DM me info too please
