FREE HESI REVIEW MATERIALS!
I am applying for Spring 2012 and just took the HESI. I have some materials I'd be happy to share if you're interested:
-Evolve study guide
-a very basic A&P review that I put together
-A&P for Dummies Workbook
-conversion flash cards (just a few, but they helped on the math section)
-booklet of Critical Thinking questions (Warning_Sign sent the NCLEX Critical Thinking review book to anyone who asked, and I just printed the practice questions)
If anyone wants any of that, it's all yours!
I studied really hard for a few weeks and made a 97.6% overall and an 860 on CT, so I think some of those materials had to have helped! Let me know if you're interested.
Hi! I'm new to this site and to nursing in general. I have a couple questions about the hesi a2 exam...1. How far in advance do I need to schedule and take my exam? ...the deadline for the program I am applying to is on December 1, 2011 (UT Houston nursing program). (I can not find an exam schedule online...)
2. How long did it take you to prepare for the exam...and how difficult is the exam...
3. If I already have a degree in Biology will I need to study for the exam or will I probably do fine taking it cold??
Thank you!!
I am applying to the Summer 2012 UT Houston Nursing Program (Accelerated Program)
Also...any study tips for the HESI A2 exam would be greatly appreciated!!!:redpinkhe
To answer your questions:
1. I'm not sure exactly how far in advance you need to start the process, but I registered in July, took the Exam this past week, and my application is due Sept. 1, no problem. Here are UTHSC's instructions for registration: http://son.uth.tmc.edu/dotAsset/2368423.pdf
2. I studied hard for a few weeks (not working). It's very helpful if you took A&P I & II recently. If not, review that. The recommended review book is essential: http://www.us.elsevierhealth.com/product.jsp?isbn=9781416056355
3. If you have a degree and test well, those are pluses, but definitely review the specific material outlined in the above book. Here are a few helpful hints:
-The Vocab section seemed to be all from the book. It's not much, so study it well.
-The A&P review in the book is not very thorough. Review in depth. I know that sounds vague, but if you have taken A&P I and II, you'll do fine. Just don't expect everything on the test to be in the review book or vice versa.
-For the math section, memorize the conversions in the review book (e.g. 1 mile = 1760 yards). There aren't many, and they'll definitely help you on the test.
-The Critical Thinking section is tricky. There's not really a good way to prepare for it. Each question is a scenario in which a nurse might find him/herself, and a decision must be made. All of the answers are correct- you just have to select the most correct. It's sort of testing your nursing intuition. Sounds crazy, but just try your best and use common sense.
-DEFINITELY look at past semester application threads (Spring 2012, Fall 2011) for more detailed study hints.
Hope that helps! Good luck!
