UTHSC- San Antonio GPA

Students SRNA

Published

Hey y'all,

I'm currently a Freshman at UTSA looking at getting into the UT Health Science Center for nursing. I have 39 of the needed 54 credits to apply at the moment, with a GPA of 3.69. I still need to take ALL my sciences. Yes, all of them- Micro, A&P, chemistry, etc. so my GPA is expected to fluctuate of course. I stress everyday about getting into the program (I'm going the BSN route and later hope to become a CRNA) and would REALLY appreciate if anyone can leave input on their GPAs, TEAS scores and extracurriculars when accepted into UT Health Science Center San Antonio.

Note: I have not yet taken the TEAS, and have heard varying rumors on how much it effects admittance into nursing programs.

Specializes in CVICU.

I'm currently a UTHSCSA nursing student (now third semester).

Here are some averages on the scores from those who were accepted:

-Traditional (Spring 2012- start date): Accepted: 126, Pre-Req GPA: 3.39, Cumulative GPA: 3.33, TEAS V: 76.77

-Traditional (Fall 2012- start date): Accepted: 128, Pre-Req GPA: 3.52, Cumulative GPA: 3.44, TEAS V: 79.1

I will say, the Fall admission is much more competitive than the Spring, but recently there has been a surge in applicants, for the same amount of spots.

I forgot what my scores were when I was accepted for Spring 2012, but I know they weren't outstanding. They focus more on your science GPA though.

You should be fine. Just continue to do your best, relax, and apply when you feel your ready. UTHSCSA is a great school.

Also, for the TEAS V, you are only allowed to take it once, or if you have taken it before, they will only accept the first score. This was instituted my semester because people before us were abusing the system (you could take it dozens of times).

Hope this helped. :)
