UTEP program and preceptors

I am interviewing for UTEP PNP program next week to start in the summer. Was just curious how many preceptors will we need to find for this program? Any special requirements for these preceptors? Like MD, NP, clinic, hospital, Pedatrician office, or specialty? Appreciate the help

Also how long is the program exactly, I heard 2 years, but is there a certain number of semesters? Were you able to work full or part time and complete the program without difficulty?

Any information on interview or questions they might ask?

Thanks!

I'm in the FNP program and I had to find 4, I think PNP is less. Either way, they aren't too stict and they can come from MD, NP, or PA. If you're doing primary it's mostly in outpatient offices. If you're doing acute you will do a mix of office and hospital.

My program is 2 years doing summers, so 6 semesters. I have friends doing the acute peds NP program and I think their program was 7 semesters, but because they started in the summer similar to you, they will be completing the program in August, so basically 2 years and 3 months.

I personally work fulltime during the program and haven't had too much trouble. Until I started clinical I even was doing overtime. I'm lucky and have a night shift job that allows me a little downtime to work on schoolwork. That said, several classmates have cut back to part-time. I personally am doing this program without taking out student loans so it's not an option.

Hello, I am looking into UTEP FNP program and I wanted to ask you about your experience. Would you recommend the school and what are some pros and cons to the program?

ambrw33-Yeah so excited to know others that got accepted! Congrats to you. I haven't heard anything about tuition cost yet but I will let you know. I am in austin, so I very excited we are so close. Might come in handy for study group:)

How are you liking the program at UTEP so far?

I do like the school, we have not had to go to El Paso too many times. I think the FNP program have to go a few more than we do in PNP. I love the director of our program which was one of the reasons I went to UTEP over Texas Tech (accepted to both). They actually want to help you vs nursing school where they are weeding you out. The tuition is much cheaper than some other schools like UT. There are some other people on here who have done the FNP program and they might be able to answer more of the cons for the program, my program is a bit different now that we are getting into clinicals. Good luck applying and deciding!

I'm currently in the FNP program at UTEP. They have been amazing. I had to take some time off from the program after I had my baby, but I'm back in and everything's been great. My only complaint about the program is having to find my own preceptors. I just relocated to San Antonio so it's been a lot to learn my way around, on top of trying to figure out where to go for preceptors. But the program has assisted me with that, so I think I'll be able to find all of my preceptors in plenty of time.

Wow great news ! I just submitted my application and hopefully I hear back soon. I have heard nothing but great things about this program and that the instructors actually care about your success. It's so hard to find that in an online graduate level environment. It confirms I made the right choice . How are the classes structured? Is it mostly test, papers, discussions? Do they require you to buy the camera for test? I just want to prepare myself for what's ahead . Also any advice? Thanks again for your honest feedback!

Hi I'm interviewing for this program soon . Would you be able to give me any insight into the interview process ?

Hey, it's fine. I did my interview over the phone. I would say know about the career path you choose and be able to answer why. It was very personalable. You'll be fine! I love the program!! Good luck!

Thank you ! I found out I was accepted . I work full time do you think it is doable ?
