UTA Spring 2012

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

UGH......I now have a NEW advisor at UTA and she is saying that "even if you get a job before October your application WILL NOT be moved into the partnered pool!!!"

**** I need all of you that have been told otherwise to PM or respond to me cause I want to know how many different advisors are saying this?! I am so upset cause I had an awesome advisor and now....

Still hoping I can get some responses on here.....anyone??!!! PM me if needed

@tejas, Who is your advisor? I've had the same one forever, but she's alseep at the wheel. Never says an encouraging word, EVER. The Assistant Dean is more encouraging than my advisor. What is going on? Are they hiring additional advisors, or are people quitting?

@Katybusymom...I'm not sure what happened to my old advisor...just went to email her last week and got an auto reply that she was "no longer with UTA and to contact so and so" So upsetting.....

I emailed my new one (can't list her name on here) but she took a couple days to respond and didn't even answer the question I asked her, yet pretty much implied I needed to get a job at a partnering hospital if I wanted to get into the program. Not encouraging at all and very weird since I just simply asked how many applied for Spring 2012. I now know she also told another student who emailed her pretty much the same thing!! It's crazy!

By the way, the count for Spring 2012 is 700!! :(

I'm really discouraged now too because she also wrote that even if I get a job before rankings in Oct my application does not get moved over (exactly opposite what I was told 2 mos ago by old advisor) so I'm discouraged and frustrated by the switch of info.

That sucks! I bet we have the same advisor because mine was changed. Have you thought about getting a job at one of the hospitals?

Yes, that was my plan but since she wrote me back "that it won't matter for this app period...it'll be Fall 2012 before I can be considered partnered" I'm bummed!! :( That seems like forever off...

I am just extremely disappointed over the misinformation that seems to be happening....I'm told one thing by one person and then another person turns around and gets to make another opposite decision and it's frustrating!!! :(

Well you still might get lucky and get in! Yes not putting my app in until the end of the year does seem like forever but I still have some classes to finish up.

Yep, my advisor confirmed that they have 700 applicants for the Spring 2012 AP BSN program. I was sick to my stomach when I read that number. Two advisors left and two more are in training right now which might be why everyone is getting conflicting stories. I'm not sure THEY know what is the right story.

This program sure started off different than it is ending up. I wonder if the two advisors that left, quit their jobs because of it? It would be interesting to find out. Maybe they got tired of lying to people all day long.

@katybusymom....yes, the 700 number made me a little nauseous too! That's a lot of people for so few spots....I wish I knew how many partnered applied verses how many of those are non-partnered? Also wondering how many spots they plan to have for the non-partnered?

Your info on the advisors is alarming...I wonder the same thing?!! 2 advisors for all of us with 2 in training is scary! :( I just wish I could have talked to my old advisor before she left to see what her thoughts on where the program is headed....

From what I heard from a previous advisor, she was particularly disheartened with the situation at UTA. She had always been able to tell students what to shoot for regarding stats, when to apply etc, and that she felt good about the advice she gave. After the last round of AP BSN applicants came through (Fall 2011), she no longer felt the same way. I do not know if that advisor is still there or not.

I know from my own experience that what they tell you when you sign up for the program and what happens after you get into it are two completely different things. To this day, I have never received an email from UTA regarding the lack of (meaning zero) clinical sites in Houston. I've had to search, dig, scavenge and beg the information I've gotten so far. If I would have left my future entirely up to UTA, I would not have applied to any other schools, and I would very likely not get into a nursing program anywhere.

It's sad to say, but UTA really dropped the ball on this one and they've left hundreds of people out in the cold and in the dark. We have no information and they are not forthcoming with it.

I do know that for Fall 2011, only 6 people made it into the AP BSN program out of almost 600 that were NOT partnered.

@katybusymom....yes, I thought it was closer to 15 but I knew it was an extremely low number considering there were 650 applicants!! :( 6 is insane!! I bet you anything that the advisor that your friend was referring to was my old advisor because she was amazing and so heartfelt...she wrote me a long email after my denial for Fall '11 stating "that never in UTA's history had they received so many applications for the online program or even on campus and she hoped that was an "aberration" (her exact words)" but we can now see it was not and it's only going to increase from here cause: 1) it's majority online (flexibility) and 2) price wise, one of the least expensive for a BSN in the area.

I completely agree with your statement about how the program is marketed and how the actual program is!!! Never do they mention when signing up to take patho and pharm that you'll most likely never be accepted unless you already work at a partnering hospital...and who knows how long it'll be before it'll be as competitive within the partnering hospitals. My old advisor did say that even last semester not all Baylor partnered applicants were admitted because there were not enough Baylor spots.

Are you in Houston now? I am copying and pasting the most current list of partnering hospitals I just received from my advisor.
