UTA RN to BSN online start October 2012

Published

I start the UTA RN TO BSN program this October 2012. I am from Pennsylvania. I heard they go over texas nursing laws a lot and I was wondering if anyone that is in the program now could tell me how the program is and if it is hard being out of state doing the program? I was also debating on going to ohio university?

Is it possible to do nursing classes with gen eds?

Thank you!!!

I'm from out of state, too. Just started a few weeks ago in Prof nurs A. I haven't done anything w/ texas nursing laws, yet, but I'm too new to the program. I looked into Ohio U also, but they won't let you start until Jan if you don't live in Ohio and work at one of their partner schools. So, that's how I ended up here. I'm taking one nursing class and one general class now and it isn't impossible, but you do have a lot to do all the time. That's just how it is.

Having finished this program, the references to state laws primary deal with things that are either common sense or exist in various forms in other states.

Things typically discussed include:

-Safe Harbor: you have the right to protect your license from sanctions by the BON if you object to an unsafe assignment but management refuses to make accomodations

-Peer assistance: Specifically, Texas has the Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses (TPAPN). These programs exist in other states too but may have different specific rules/regulations. There is a quiz over this in the Professional Nursing course, but most of the answers are easily looked up on the TPAPN website and/or in the lecture/notes provided

-Laws, rules, and regulations aimed at professional conduct, malpractice, and patient boundaries: these are thoroughly discussed in the lectures/notes and are primary common sense. Don't come to work drunk, don't have sex with a patient, don't accept financial gifts from patients, et cetera.

There are plenty of people from out of state that have completed this program without any issues whatsoever. You are just slightly disadvantaged because most Texas nurses are already very familiar with these topics and Texas' approach to them.

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

They do focus on Texas law. But you can address some assignments based on your own state's scope of practice--they will tell you which ones have to be Texas-specific and which your state regulations can be used.

However you need to be able to back anything up with references, so if you haven't purchased/obtained a copy of your state's nursing regulations and/or are not familiar with your state's BON website, start on that now.

would you recommend this program? and how long did it take you to complete? I feel like they want me to take a lot of general eds?

I'm going to start their program this September. Wouldove to get some feedback on them as well!!! :) thanks in advance.

Hello everyone! Has anyone ever taken microbiology with UTA? (Online rn ben program) I want to know your opinion on the class.

Sabrina

Is it possible to finish the program in less than 13 months? Giving that I just only have to take the nursing courses and that I have all that pre-reqs?

I am looking into UTA online as well, how are those of you doing already in the program or graduated? Would you recommend it?

I've just gone through the most frustrating 2 months with UTA. I had read some previous posts somewhere on this website about how they kept loosing transcripts; I was somewhat prepared for this scenario. Turns out I wasn't prepared enough. I has transcripts sent from three different institutions, they lost all three. I had my nursing school ones sent twice, which of course I paid for twice. There were multiple emails with multiple staff members, non of whom seemed to coordinate with each other. I went back to those that had sent transcripts to get the date they were sent out (and of course they were) they went back to three different people to confirm with them that they have them. One person transferred me to another office which bounced back an email saying they'd be gone for two weeks. One said they'd emailed the mail room and -- taadaa-- found them, which of course begs the question "why did you not do that in the first place?". At the end of this two month struggle they told me my nursing schools wasn't accredited and I couldn't transfer anything over. My school is accredited by the NJ state board of nursing, the NLNAC and the science classes I took we're at a state university with more accreditations that I have time to type. I wish I new this upfront and saved myself the agony of going back and forth with lost transcripts. If you are going here please make sure that they accept your school as accredited (or at least what they deem accredited) before doing anything else.
