Anyone going/have gone there? Problems getting in. Horror stories? (I'm in Louisiana and I ask because we have a college here that the admission staff loses everything and that seems to be the norm.)

How long does it usually take? Waiting lists, etc. Typically nursing school questions. If they have a LVN-BSN track.

That was my plan exactly. My tentative schedule is to take concepts in the Spring finish up my science requirements (A&P I, II) in the Summer then take care of pharmacology and pathophysiologic after that.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your prerequisite course sequence like leading up to your Junior year?

We actually didn't take those 3 courses as prereqs. They were part of our junior I semester. (Actually, I think some people did, but it wasn't required.) I think it's better to take them before nursing school. That first semester was a killer alone without those 3 classes! (We had 5 or 6 classes total- I can't remember- plus a 12 hour clinical each week.) As for the rest of the prereqs, it was pretty much general associate's level stuff. I think they're all listed on UTA's site, but you're probably past all that now!

Yeah, it's all listed on UTA's website. I was a History major (Pre-Law option for the last few semesters) Since I decided to take this semester off, I've had some time to consider my future, and Nursing has kept coming up and I believe it is something I am more suited for.

This is my current plan of thought:

Fall 2006 - 2nd 8 weeks (Taken at the local CC)

Intro to Sociology - 3 hours

Winter-mester 2006 (Taken at the local CC)

Intro to Psychology - 3 hours

Spring 2007

Nutrition - 3 hours

General and Biological Chemistry - 4 hours

Nursing Microbiology - 4 hours

Developmental Psychology - 3 hours

Concepts of Professional Nursing - 2 hours

Summer I 2007 (Taken at the local CC)

A & P I - 4 hours

Summer II 2007 (Taken at the local CC)

A & P II - 4 hours

Fall 2007 (Apply to SON as soon as possible at this point for a possible Spring enrollment)

Pharmacologic Implications for Healthcare - 3 hours

Pathophysiologic Processes: Implications for Nursing - 3 hours

Apply to more than one, hope, pray, and have patience. It took me three runs for an ADN program 7 years ago with a 3.5 GPA. I was about to give up and go to police academy (much to the chagrin of my wife), but I got in on #4 and have never regretted it. If it's what you want to do, then keep plugging along. Another option is to do the LVN to ADN route. Albeit less desireable, but much more feasable. I originally went to Tarrant County College and feel they have a very strong program that is well-respected in the DFW metroplex.

I don't know of many nursing programs outside of TCU, UTA, Baylor, and the ADN program that TCC South campus offers. Once I get into the last two nursing prerequisites I'll be applying to both TCU and UTA's Nursing program. If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

I think your plan looks good. I'm going to PM you a great micro instructor. TWU has a good nursing school also. The BNE has a list of BSN schools. I don't think there are many up here... Baylor is good, but muy expensive.
