UT Arlington MSN Nurse Educator

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Hi everyone. This year I finished my RN-to-BSN and I'm looking to go back to school to pursue my MSN in nursing education. UTA's online program looks very appealing to me. I tried searching on this site for others who have completed this program but couldn't find a whole lot of info. I was wondering if someone could shed some light on a few questions I have for anyone who has finished the program.

"Nursing Education Practicum" has 135 preceptor hours requirement so I understand that means on the field training... however there are two classes, "Advanced Assessment for Nurse Educators" and "Assessment and Evaluation Strategies", both of which require "45 hours of clinical application" each. Do the last two classes mean I need to have had worked already as an RN (which I have and working as one currently) before taking these two classes?

Thanks!

Hi,

Sorry this is late, I just joined allnurses!!! To answer your question; the practicum is with a preceptor in a school of nursing or with an educator in a hospital etc. The other courses you do on your own with various apps and things. At least that was the case when I was in the program. I got my degree in May 2017. I actually finished the program up in Dec. 2016, but missed the graduation application deadline. I hope this response helped.

How long did the MSN Ed program take? Were the classes hard? I start July 2nd - any advice? I just finished their RN to BSN program in May so I am familiar with their online format.
