Hello All,
I am wanting to attend the UT Arlington BSN Program. I need to have my PreReqs out of the way and thought I'd take my Science courses at UT but take my core classes (math, gov, hist.etc.) at a community college due to the lower tuition costs.
Th only problem I see is that if I do this, I will be applying for the UT BSN program with a limited number of classes that were actually taken there. They give preference to those that take at least 30 hours at UT and I will only be taking 20 at UT with the rest at a community college.
I would appreciate any and all advice from someone that did this or went to UT. Should I just take out loans and take ALL the classes at UT? Will it be that big of a deal?
Thanks!!

I think it all depends.
If you think that you can make good grades in the science courses at UTA, I wouldn't think there would be a problem with you taking your other prereqs at a community college.
UTA has a few GPA's that they look at: UTA GPA, Science GPA, prereq GPA, and total GPA. If you can make A's in all your sciences at UTA, then 2 of the parameters they look at will be really good, so you'll have a good chance of getting to the interview. However, a couple of C's will really bring you down. I knew a girl that had great grades at TCC, but made C's in 2 of the nursing prereqs at UTA and never got an interview.
So, long story short, I would start by taking my sciences at UTA and see how you do. You can apply to the nursing program without completing all of the core classes, so there's no harm in holding off on going to community college for a semester. (I still have a fine arts elective and sociology and am in the program) If you find yourself struggling in the science courses, I would take some of the other non-science prereqs at UTA to boost your GPA.
