UT AE-MSN 2017

Published

Hi, everyone. I am planning on applying to the ae-msn program this fall. I've read through all the ae-msn posts from '08 to 2016. I didn't see a thread for this year's application, so I'm starting one. Feel free to post questions and comments! :)

I guess today's not the day. Not knowing is painful! I remember Tracy mentioning to me once that she doesn't usually work on Fridays. I hope that doesn't delay our finding out until next week. Schedules could be different during busier times of the year but just thought I'd mention it.

Well the "end of January" isn't until next Tuesday

The days of anticipation are so long.

3 more days max y'all! Good luck everyone and be proud of how far we all made it.

Are any of y'all applying to back up schools?

I applied to TWU and a community college by my house for their ADN. This is still my first choice.

I have all my eggs in the UT basket. I didn't apply to any other programs, mainly because I need to stay around the Austin area and since both my bachelor & master degrees are from out of state, I would have like 8 core courses to take just to earn the BSN. Looking at the timing, it's roughly the same amount of time for me to get into the AE-MSN vs any of the other nursing programs around here. TX Tech's 1 year would have been my second option but all the Texas core for the bachelor's degree just wasn't worth pursuing. So, if I don't get in, then I'll re-evaluate. But this waiting is getting agonizing!!!

I'm in the same exact boat as you Wildcats9. UT is my number 1 choice and if I don't get in (which would really suck), I can either reapply or pursue the many pointless core courses I will need in order to attend any other nursing program in the area. I'm not originally from Texas so taking Texas history and Texas government isn't exactly something I'm dying to do!

I hope we we find out Monday or Tuesday of this week. Pretty please!!

Yeah, that makes total sense! I'm from Texas and I'm still having to take pointless courses for pre-reqs for my back up schools (UT Health in Houston and Baylor). I'm really hoping we hear back tomorrow so I can drop these pre-req courses that I'm currently taking! Lol.

Hi all!! I just wanted to take a sec to wish you all the best of luck! I graduated from this program in December. However, I was originally waitlisted & was so sad when I found out. But shortly after I did come off the waitlist & although I hope no one gets in the same boat as I was, I just wanted to advise you all not to get too discouraged! Again, I hope y'all hear something real soon!!! :)

Ugh!! It's so frustrating! The state of Texas core courses required are a joke! Tech didn't want to accept a graduate 600 level bio-stats course in place of stats 200 here. The course catalog matched verbatim what needs to be covered in the course AND the classwork was applied towards epidemiology/healthcare case statistics!! They said they could look into allowing it but there were several other courses that I needed to have. I'm just over it!! Texas gov/history, art history, etc will not have an impact on how well we could perform as nurses (or most any other careers in general). It's utterly ridiculous. I'd understand if we didn't already have undergrad degrees.

I also found the different pre-reqs required across the numerous programs to be frustrating-- aside from the Texas core requirements, some programs require zoology, CNA certifications, TEAS test or HESI, GRE, etc. with the urgent need we face for nurses, there should be a standard core of requirements.

Congratulations on graduating! Which track did you go into and how do you feel about your experience with the program? Words of wisdom to share? I applied to the CNS track and I've read some posts on this blog that some people had issues getting jobs as CNS because they hadn't actually developed the expertise experience to be considered a specialist in the field, so they were basically earning the same as BSN prepared nurses. I am most interested in the gerontology aspect but domworry it could be a liability to have the CNS designation in the short term.

In the 2015 forum they were notified the 2nd of February. Im really hoping we hear back earlier this week. All this suspense is bad for my health! :dead:
