USN ABSN July 2011

U.S.A. Nevada

Hello All!

Has anyone on here applied to the ABSN at USN for the July 2011 cohort? I applied a few weeks ago, and I am just waiting to hear when my interview date will be. Just curious if anyone else has received an interview date yet or been accepted/denied yet?

My friend applied for the April cohort originally but they couldn't secure a clinical site or something so they forwarded his application for July. He went in for his interview in the middle of April and he found out today he was accepted. Good luck to you! Hope you hear back soon.

Well congrats to him!!! Thanks for the reply though!

I'm applying for the July cohort and here's my timeline:

Application sent in: appx 1 April (can't remember exactly)

Unofficial transcripts emailed: appx 30 March

Official transcripts ordered: appx 1 April too...

TEAS: 14 April (99th percentile nationwide/program, appx 94% raw score)

Invited for interview: 15 April

Interview scheduled: 17 May (Viva, Las Vegas...)

How did your interview go? If you don't mind me asking, what questions did they ask you? My interview is next week. I am so excited, and really want to get in!

Overall the interview went well. I won't give the exact questions I was asked (academic integrity and all...) but if you prepare to address the topics provided in the email from Imelda to schedule the interview, that would be good preparation. I would advise to find the building where you'll be interviewing the day before since the roads in Vegas are a little choppy and confusing--I left my hotel on the Strip 1 1/2 hours early for what should have been a 10-15 minute trip, figuring to find the building and then go get some coffee to relax and kill the remainder of the time but instead I got way way way way lost and ended up rolling in a couple minutes late.

A few points of concern:

1) In the "getting to know you" phone interview, the person I spoke with said that you get breaks during the summer/Thanksgiving/Christmas but apparently that's incorrrect--on Tuesday we were told you get a week or so at Christmas and that's it. Also, the didactic blocks are NOT completely online as their site may have led you to believe--there is still optional yet almost-mandatory group study time and simulation lab time that you have to be in-person for. That gave me pause since I had thought we only needed to be present for clinicals...

2) The day seemed a bit disorganized, i.e. some interviewers couldn't stay for the whole time the candidates were there so they had to leave and consequently some of us were sitting in the holding tank for a while. That wasn't a huge problem (there was food and I was hungry...) and it did give those of us present the chance to ask some extra questions. I'm not sure whether this was indicative of a scheduling problem or just it being a relatively new program without the kinks worked out but it was something I noticed.

3) I am somewhat irritated that my interview was a student in-person and an instructor on speakerphone. Entertainment expenses aside, this was a fairly expensive trip when the airfare, car rental, lost time from work, and hotel/food expenses got totaled up and so if I knew 1/2 of my interviewing team was going to be on the phone anyway, I'm not 100% sure I would have made the trip and opted to do a phone interview right off the bat. Again, this might be indicative of a young program without firm administrative procedures so I'm withholding judgement for now.

Thank you for your input. It helps. So it seems as though they stick to the questions Imelda stated in the email, that's good. I have been preparing for those topics. I hope my interview does not have someone over the phone, if so, like you said, I maybe should have done the phone call. But my boyfriend and I are looking at apartments as well. We are coming from California so we need to prepare if I get in. Let us know if you get in. Do you think you will go if you get accepted? Thank you again for your replies, they are helpful!

Has anyone been accepted to the July 2011 cohort yet? Besides J*marts friend.

Hi!

Have you heard? Are you going in July? When is the exact start date in July?

Thanks for all the information! Are you going to start in the July cohart?

Jazlin,

I haven't heard yet, but it starts July 11 I believe. Did you apply too?

Yes, I did. Just had my phone interview this morning. Couldn't get the time off to travel to LV, but orientation will be June 20 & 21 so will definitely be there then. I don't know for sure if they accepted me yet, but I'm being positive.

What part of Cali are you from? I'll coming in from L.A. Will still have to find a place to live, quit my job, complete financing..Whew!;)
