USM Fall 2016

Published

Hi, I just wanted to start a thread for the upcoming traditional application cycle for USM. I am applying from Denver, Colorado. Would love to get in touch with some other applicants.

Hey all, I was also accepted to the Lewiston Auburn campus. I was also accepted to the ABSN at the University of Maine Fort Kent, so am now trying to figure out which school to attend between the two. USM gave me a substantial transfer scholarship, which I believe would make it cheaper than UMFK— in fact, it would make it very affordable. However, at UMFK I would be done with school in only a year or so, as opposed to two. I ultimately want to be an FNP, so I want to get my BSN with some haste to get some work experience before the FNP! Unfortunately it seems that USM does not offer many nursing courses in the summer, so I wouldn't be able to graduate sooner by taking clinicals in the summer.

I was hoping to attend USM in Portland, rather than the LAC. I am wondering if we have the option of taking classes/clinicals there, or if we are limited to LAC. Additionally, I have not received an evaluation of my transfer credits, so am still waiting to make sure they accept my prereqs from my prior bachelor's degree.

Congrats all!

I called earlier today and usm is still auditing credits. I believe we are limited to the lac campus but I am not certain.

Morning everyone, I created a Facebook page for our graduating class. USM-LAC Class of 2018 for whoever would like to join!

Were any of you hoping to take summer classes to get through faster? I was hoping to be able to take classes continuously, but it seems as though not as many clinicals are offered in the summers.

I'm going to work over the summer to save money in order to take out less loans. I do not think they offer much over the summer. The following link is to a student nurse employment program that is in option over next summer.

Geary Cooperative | School of Nursing | University of Southern Maine

I don't think it would speed up graduation but would be a valuable experience.

Hey I recently received a letter in regards to what cohort I'll be in. I start as a junior and am in cohort 1. Any news for you?

I am in cohort 1 as well. I paid for my criminal background check yesterday and have an appointment on Thursday to get the required antibody titers done.

Starting as a junior?

Yup as a junior, still haven't received my transfer credit report though. I'm calling tomorrow to see where they are at in that process.

Have you had any luck in apartment searches? Coming from Denver, I am used to a plethora of medium-large apartment complexes with lots of availability, I am not finding this to be true in the Lewiston-Auburn area.

Can you message me your number? I've been looking this past month.

Mountain Climber-I just noticed your private message from May 2nd. I responded back with my contact information. Ttys.
