I'm passionate about Labor and Delivery and Post Partum! I went to nursing school knowing this is what I was going to do and actually taking the OB class is lighting a fire in me.
Just a question for all of you nurses. Did volunteering on your floor actually help you land a job there? Do you see a lot of pre-nursing or nursing students trying to go this route? Does it seem manipulative?
I did turn in an application to volunteer on L&D or PP, even if it's just making copies and answering phones, I just want to get my face in there as much as possible. Would this realistically help with getting a job in the OB suites?
Thanks!

Volunteering won't hurt, but why not try an externship? This way you get paid and get good training. Then when you finish school and get your license you may be "next in line" for an opening.
The only hospital in a 50 mile radius that has OB anything doesn't offer externships or student nurse internships, otherwise I would have jumped at the chance!
