USF Nursing Applicants 2017

Published

Hi everyone and thank you in advance for taking the time to read this. I have been accepted as a transfer to the University of South Florida but have not yet applied to their nursing school. I am really concerned with how competitive the program is and whether or not I measure up to their standards. I currently have a 3.76 Overall GPA and while it got me accepted into general admissions, I fear that it isn't high enough to get me into the nursing college. For feedback purposes, I have volunteered for several organizations, including: nursing homes, Manna Food Project, American Red Cross, and Tampa General Hospital. I doubt this will have any influence on my admissions but I have also been a lifeguard for 5 years now so I have experience with CPR and AED as well as some other practical skill certificates. My father is an alumni of USF so this school is currently my top choice. I would love and appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I am a USF graduate and I can tell you that I have seen perspective students come in with perfect 4.0 GPA's and not get accepted due to not performing well on the interview, I have also witnessed students with 3.5 GPA's be accepted, me being one of them. You have a lot to offer, and let them know that in a clear concise voice, be confident and thoroughly explain your responses with examples, and try not to sound scripted. Good luck, you can do it.

Thank you so much for the response! Any advice in regards to the essay? Also, when it comes to the interview, what kind of questions are asked and what is their ideal candidate? I tend to prepare really well for interviews but my nerves often get in the way and I then short-suit myself and my accomplishments.

I went to USF spring of 2015 and all I had to do was write a 2 page page single spaced essay on 3 scenario type questions. The only interview I did was for their graduate program and I do not believe they would ask the same type of question. My advise for any essay or interview, paint a picture with your words and try to use examples to help capture what your are attempting to convey so it sounds less scripted; remember these people do not know you and are interviewing many candidates, so shine above the others. You worked hard to get this far and you are almost there, you can do it.
