USF MSN CNL non nurse spring 2019

Published

Hey everyone, I was looking for a blog and didn't see one for the next cohort at USF and decided to create one. I think it would be really helpful to be in touch with other students applying. Let's discuss and stay in touch through this process =)

Anyone heard anything about the OC campus? Is there a specific thread for that campus?

If admissions go the way SF did then OC campus should find out next week.. last Monday declines were sent via email and last Friday waitlists and acceptances were announced for SF. So maybe OC applicants will hear back next week

Does anyone know how long people who got accepted have to confirm? Also if there's a deposit?

Hi Happygolucky,

We need to confirm and pay a deposit until November 2nd. I hope that helps....

Best, Natalie

Hello @happygoluckyy , did you get a call recently and were able to get off the wait list??

Ahhh never mind! I jumped the gun and somehow thought your question about confirming acceptance meant you got accepted. I'm also on the wait list so I think I'm just overly anxious for a call...... lol

No worries, I'm still on the waiting list with tons of anxiety!

Same! From last year's threads it seemed like a lot more people on the wait list for summer start were able to get in than spring semester wait list...

I was thinking it's partly affected by application deadlines of other nursing programs that somehow coincidentally lined up in favor of USF semester cohort. LOL hopefully I'm not just scaring myself :))

Can anyone help me with justifying the cost of the program? It's hard to imagine myself making $1,000 student loan payments for the next 10+ years :/. I know that I will be making good money, but a third of my paycheck going to student loans? It's tough to stomach.

Many hospitals help pay some of your student loans in exchange for service (3- 5 years under contract). Also think of it as you will be done with a MSN not just RN so if you were wanting your masters anyway you would have to additional cost plus more years in school. Lastly, for me I wanted to get get out of school in the shortest amount of time most traditional BSN are 5 to 6 semesters which is up to a year more and potentially one year of income. Depending on where you end up working you can make up the 100k in that year.

Thank you so much for your response! I definitely see the points you made. A RN that I know just graduated from an ADN program and did the BSN bridge option. He is hired at a facility that pays him as if he had his BSN already since he is finishing it up. He started the program during the second year of the ADN program.

For the loan reimbursement, it seems like it's just 2k a year, which barely skims the surface of a loan that large. 100k for an entry level nurse seems to be very high. I haven't seen those numbers on a new salary.

I think getting the MSN in two years is the way to go, but the cost is making me think twice. The loans are one thing but the interest rates are also terrible! 6.7% on the Federal loans and 8% on the Grad PLUS loans?! That's soul crushing when you really start running the numbers. Private loans are another option, but kiss any loan forgiveness programs goodbye :(. I want this SO bad, but I don't want to cripple my financial future for YEARS to come.

OC folks,

Has anyone heard back?
