USF Master's Entry CNL - Spring 2010

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I just applied to USF (CA) CNL program for the non-nurse. Has anyone else applied? Or does anyone know their admission statistics from last spring?

Ha, that is good to know! Congratulations to you, Zelipa.

Zelipa, do you mind sharing with us if you have any healthcare experience, etc.? I am just curious. I know the GPA matters, but I think they look more at extracurricular activities, healthcare experience, etc. Thanks, and congrats again!

does anyone know if they sent out rejection letters yet?

I was accepted, too! I am in shock, grateful, and so excited to begin.

mfrancisco - I didn't have any direct clinical experience, but I have worked in hospitals for the past several years. When I first decided to go into nursing, I got a job as a Bed Control Coordinator, then worked as a Registrar, Unit Coordinator in an ER and scheduler for a specialist office. I spent a lot of time describing my work experience in my essay, as well as the reasons I am pursuing nursing, why I wanted to be a CNL, and why I hoped to go to USF in particular. My undergrad GPA wasn't that great - 3.24. However, I've gotten A's in every class I've taken since going back, with the exception of Microbiology, where I got a B. I think my science GPA must have helped. For the section where we had to describe our additional professional or community experience, I talked about the year I spent abroad in Spain, volunteer work I did in high school, and some of the awards I received when I graduated. I was involved with Girl Scouts throughout high school and we did a ton of work in our community and were awarded the Congressional Award. At first I thought writing about stuff from high school was too old (I graduated in 2001) but anything helps!

I am so stoked, I can't believe it! Good luck to everyone!!!!

I found out yesterday that I got in! I was so nervous opening the envelope! Good luck to everyone!

Congrats to everyone. Thank you so much, carinaj, for posting all of that information. I really appreciate it. My undergrad GPA wasn't that great either, but I have gotten As in all of the pre-reqs that I have taken since then. I am currently taking Physiology, General Psych, and Speech. I got an A in Anatomy and Micro, so I am hoping that, if I don't get in, those grades will help when I apply again. I have volunteer experience in healthcare, but no where nearly as much as you, and I do not have any job experience in healthcare. It is obvious why they accepted you! Congrats, and the best of luck to you. You deserve it!

Congrats to those of you who have been accepted!

Rabitona, rejection letters have gone out. I know one person who received one yesterday...good luck to you!!

Well, I know it sounds terrible, but I'm relieved to hear that someone has been rejected. I was starting to think they had everyone on the waitlist who did not make it. I am just really wondering why we didn't get assigned a waitlist number in the letter. It would give us a better idea of what our chances are. Good luck to all of us who are on the waitlist.

Thanks nattles! Good luck to all of us still waiting and congrats to those who got in!

Rabitona, sounds like you will get your letter tomorrow. Good luck to you!

Hi everyone! I just spoke with someone about those of us on the waitlist. She said that the faculty is still working on ranking us and that they will be calling us to notify us shortly of our admission status. She also said that they only select about 15 people total to be placed on the waitlist...So i guess we just have to remain patient and keep our fingers crossed!!!

Thanks for the info, nattles! I guess we do have to keep our fingers crossed. Did they mention how many people were told they were on the "waitlist" or how many people applied? Good luck to you!
