Anyone applying to USF's (University of South Florida) nursing program?. I feel discouraged because I heard how competitive and rigorous it is.I have a 3.7 GPA. finished about half of my pre-reqs, got A's in all of my science courses. A B in statistics, ethics, and humanities:sarcastic:. I'm currently an ambassador at a community college and volunteering at a hospital. If those aren't good enough to get in the program I don't know what will lol. Is anyone here a USF nursing student? I would love to hear your experiences. I hope I can at least get into USF or my community college. If those fail..then it's off to Rasmussen or technical for me!!
I seriously thought I was missing something, but I didn't see anything about a resume. I wrote it up about a month ago and spent a lot of time editing it. I was surprised when I didn't see a spot to upload one. Oh well, better to be safe than sorry :) Good luck to you! This wait is going to be hard lol
There is not a resume required for a USF College of Nursing application. So you are not missing anything. They also do not take references. I mean really, who submits a bad reference... all of them are always good so why bother. Volunteer hours are also not required to be documented. It can be something that is brought up within the essay.
The way that it works is, you are awarded points, overall GPA is 30%, your pre-req GPA is 30% and your essay is read by College of Nursing professors and they give it so many points that are worth 40% of your overall total. The applicants with the most points are offered spots in the program.
Thank you for the information, PalmHarborMom. You made a good point. I brought up my volunteer and shadow experiences towards the end of my essay when it asked about relevant experience to nursing. I'm hoping for the best! Like you said, the wait is the hard part. I like how USF made the change in their admissions and required applicants to put in a writing sample. This way, applicants have a chance of separating themselves from the others and aren't just some "statistic" with regard to GPA only.
Reason I sent my records is because I mentioned my 400+ community serv. hours in my essay and I wanted them to see proof or thought that they might want to see it. But I'm hoping for the best
It's always better to be safe than sorry. I think you did the right thing. I'm hoping for the best too!

Thanks PalmHarborMom! Did you have to do a resume when you did your application? I thought I remember seeing someone talk about it, but I looked the application up and down a million times and couldn't find a spot for the resume.. only the writing sample. Thanks!
