Schools in our area aren't planning on closing unless the attendance is extremely low. I remember a few years ago when the flu shots weren't as effective, the number of students in the local elementary school were running around 40% for a few weeks. The problem is the children bring the flu home to their families.
They're thinking of immunizing children at school (which I'm all for), but who knows how that will turn out.
Frankly, I'd like to see a decrease in most public activities if the flu season gets out of hand. And a liberal absentee policy for affected workers. The thing is, we should have been ready for this a long time ago...We all knew it was coming.
