US jobs for foreign nurses living in the US

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone could help me out in my dilemma. I am a foreign graduate nurse. I have passed all the exams needed for a nurse to work in the US namely CGFNS, IELTS and NCLEX. I also have a visascreen certificate. However, I have no nursing experience post graduation. I am currently living in the US on a dependent visa with my spouse and I was hoping that someone could help me find out the options I have employment wise.

If anyone could refer me to any agency or company who processes nurses like my case that would be a really BIG help... life changing I would say! :o

I would really appreciate any input!!!

Thank you so much! ;)

Hi BettyBoop.

I'm sorry to be a bubble burster, but your chances do not look very good.

The USA has a poor job economy right now. I know nurses with years of experience, who graduated from prestigious schools, and they are scrambling to find new jobs.

The immigration laws are also tightening up these days.

I just cannot see anyone investing in you, at the moment. This isn't meant to be personal, but truthful. You will probably not land a job here. The odds are against you.

I would highly suggest that you apply in your hometown. I really believe that, sometimes, there is a misconception about the USA having a nursing shortage and being the land of opportunity. I love my country, but at the present moment we can barely afford to take care of our own natural-born citizens and help them find jobs. :(

I feel I am in the same position. H4 visa, BSN with 20yrs experience (14 in ICU) and with job offer. Even with an immigration lawyer the change of visa seems futile. They are advising a Green Card - which can take 4-6 yrs?

I really feel for anyone in our situations... Is there nothing else we can do?

Green cards are extremely difficult to obtain these days. You are right.

While you mostly likely will not be able to find a job in the USA, have you tried every city in your country?

I live in a MAJOR city in the USA and even US citizens, that graduated from HIGHLY regarded universities, are having a very hard time landing proper positions.
