URGENT: HACC Pre-Nursing Questions

Published

Hello,

I need some advice from anyone who went/is in Hacc in the Pre-Nursing Program.

1. How long does the program take to complete?

2. When are you supposed to apply for clincials? I'm taking the Pre-Requistes this spring and I want to be in clinicals this fall.

3. Isn't an associates degree supposed to be a 2 year program? This all seems impossible to accomplish in two years.

Thanks so much

Have you spoken with an advisor at the school? They would be the best place to get accurate information. As for ADN programs being two years, that tends to be solely for the nursing portion. Prereqs are separate.

Greetings:

Please consider joining the HACC Students FB group as well as the HACC Pre-nursing/nursing FB group; the latter requires a valid hawkmail email address, and confirmation via a desktop or laptop computer.

1. That depends on how many classes you take at one time. I completed my prerequisites in one year; in part, because I took classes 12 months in a row (i.e. all semesters, including the summer). Towards the end, I pushed it taking AP II and Microbiology at the same time including two other classes. I do recommend doing a mix of on campus, blended (which means on campus and online), and online classes in order to maximize your time.

Of note, since the science portions of the prerequisites are significant in that the better the grade you receive, the more likely you will be accepted into clinicals, you do want to be careful how you mix up your classes. Your advisor can be helpful as well as different people in the HACC Nursing FB group.

2. HACC used to go more by a point system than not; and usually the answer would be when you get close to 100 points. They've made some changes, and because of this it would be best to talk face to face with your advisor.

http://www.hacc.edu/NewStudents/Apply/HowtoApplyandRegister/upload/Profile.pdf is the most recent profile of students admitted per campus per program based on GPA, points, etc.

3. The RN program is the associate degree portion of the program; and it does run two years for the full time day program. The prerequisites are what get you into the RN program.

Thank you.

P.S. I'm heading into my 3rd semester of the RN program at HACC this coming January 2016. There are a number of pre-nursing and existing nursing (LPN/RN) students in the HACC Nursing FB group which is a great way to ask questions and receive help.

I am staring my 1st semester of clinicals at HACC next week. The nursing portion of the program is 2 years however, you do need to get pre-reqs out of the way first. Their admission is based on a points system. Basically, the more points you accumulate, the higher your chances are at getting in. http://www.hacc.edu/NewStudents/Apply/HowtoApplyandRegister/upload/Nursing-PN-Adm.pdf. This link will take you to the page they lays out their point system. It will take the minimum of 2 semesters to complete you Bio prer-reqs. I took micro and A&P 1 in the same semester. It was tough but it's do-able.
