UPenn 2018 ABSN / Second Degree

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello, all!

Anyone else applying just to the ABSN program at UPenn for a May 2018 start? I noticed no one had started a separate thread for the program, so now as we all await interview emails, I thought it made sense to start one.

Has anyone received an email to interview yet? I know I'm still waiting...

I got an email today about scheduling an interview!

I got an email today about scheduling an interview!

Congrats wow! Is it an in-person or phone?

It is on the phone! They sent the email late on Friday so maybe they are sending out more emails on Monday.

I haven't received an email yet, hoping they are still sending out invitations! Where else did everyone apply to?

I had my phone interview on Monday 12/18! It was pretty easy... she asked the usual questions. What my original plans were in college, why i want to be a nurse, why penn, how i handle stress at home and at work, what my experience is with shadowing/volunteering, and then what questions i had for her. It was really quick, probably 20 minutes. She said "early february" decisions would be made.

Edited to add that I applied to Jefferson center city Fact 1 and . Drexel said I need to retake Chemistry because it's over 10 years old, and that all but 1 of the sciences need to be completed for their application. I am taking micro in spring, which means that Drexel is basically out for me since that would mean that two sciences wouldn't be completed until May, and I'm sure the Fall class will be filled by then. Jefferson agreed to take my Organic Chemistry in lieu of General Chem, and Penn's expiration was "suggested" not required. Jefferson needed my final Fall transcript before they could make a decision, which they just received Tuesday 12/19, so I am hoping to hear from them soon about an interview!

Did anyone else hear back about an interview yet?

Nothing yet for me

I had a BSN interview before the holiday and it was very lowkey - I got asked all of the same questions as Snowwflake20. I thought the question about handling stress was an interesting and thoughtful question, I've never been asked that in an interview before. For anybody still waiting to hear about interviews, she said they are interviewing BSN applicants through January! I imagine they'd be reaching out again shortly now that the holidays are over.

Just received an email that I got into Jefferson FACT 2 program center city... I have three weeks to make a deposit... I am hoping Penn posts decisions sooner than later. Anyone know an exact date besides "early February?"

At the end of my interview they said we will probably hear on February 10th-ish, but that the date could definitely vary.

The folks at Jefferson are well aware of the admissions timelines of the other schools in the area - at the info session I went to, the admissions director said that they'd be willing to extend the deposit deadline for folks in your situation, but will continue to fill seats in the class. She made it seem like she'd contact folks to let them know seats were getting close to filled; however, I was under the impression that most folks just eat the deposit if they get into a top-choice school. Either way, I'd recommend getting in touch with them about extending the deadline ASAP if you're gonna go that route!

Had my phone interview this week, and the questions were pretty generic and pretty much what @Snowwflake20 mentioned above. A pretty chill conversation overall. For the timeline, the interviewer said that the admission committee will review at the end of Jan and is expected to notify applicants in early Feb (around Feb 8th). The acceptance rate typically ranges between 25-30%, and this year they're expecting around 28% acceptance rate.
