First of all, let me say that New Hanover is the only hospital in Wilmington. Cape Fear Hospital is part of New Hanover. They do not have OB/GYN or Peds there. So, we are limited here.
I just got off of the phone with the recruiter. They are posting "ghost" positions (positions that are not available) to recruite nurses from other areas including out of state. So, if you apply for a position, it is not available for at least a year!
Most of the specialty positions (OB, ER, ICU) are requiring 3-5 years recent experience now. So, if you do not have 3-5 years experience, you will not be considered.
I work at this hospital currently in transcription. I have been with them for 4 years. I have been an RN since 1989 and started out in L&D. I prefer PP or Mother/Baby or GYN. I took a 5 year sabbital from nursing due to medical and personal reasons. I have been back in Nursing for 16 months now, working PP and GYN. So, I am not their "ideal" candidate for another 2 years! :angryfire
She did say I could work Med/Surg, but I informed her that if I took such a position, I would never have recent OB/GYN experience and would not be able to secure a position in the specialty I am trained for!
So, I currently drive an hour to my job as RN in PP/GYN in another city that pays $8.00/hr LESS than what I could be making where I currently live!
I think I may be moving to Florida in the near future!
