Unsolicited Warnings....

Nurses Relations

Published

So, I started my new position and I'm loving it so far! My new hospital is awesome so, I feel blessed for this opportunity. My ONLY issue is:

I keep getting unsolicited warnings from some of the nurses.

For instance, one newish nurse told me, quite blatantly, "watch your back" Another, basically said that the nurses would likely give me a hard time. Yet, another went on a 5 minute early morning rant about the unit.

It's got me wondering.....should I take these unsolicited warnings seriously? Are these nurses just a touch bitter? And, why in the world are they telling me this stuff?!!

The unit seems great to me. Has anyone else started a new job and experienced this? Did the warnings turn out to be true or just fluff?

Well, so far everything has been going smoothly as I said. I'm beginning to notice that the ones warning may be in a tiff at the moment so, I'm thinking they are looking to vent.

Honestly, I'm so darned happy I got my dream job, it would be hard to burst my bubble. Also, I have worked in some pretty turbulent conditions so, I got a tough skin. It just really surprises me that people just came out and told me this stuff as their first ever communication with me! And it continues pretty much each time I see them.

All I can do is stand there awkwardly like, "mmm, okay, so you hate it here and this is pretty much my dream all shiny with a ribbon. Alrighty then."

It's the oddest thing to me. I didn't expect a ""kumbaya circle" but man, I never expected my fellow nurses to be so openly disgruntled.
