Nursing Students School Programs

I currently attend UWA, and if anyone else wants some info I know a few things. UWA is easy to get accepted to I had a 2.5 transfer GPA when I was accepted to the school and to the Pre-nursing program (or pre-professional). Before getting accepted to the Nursing program YOU MUST earn a B or higher in: English 101, A&P 1-2, Physc, Dev. Physc, Microbiology,Art 101, and CPR (if your cpr certificate has expired you are required to retake the class). You must also take the HESI A2 (english only exam) and at the least get a 62%. This is something they just started doing because a lot of pre-reqs from the past year are not required. If you are planning on going on to further your education to a RN-BSN or RN-MSN program you should take other pre-reqs for that program. University of Alabama has a distance by bama BSN program with guaranteed acceptance threw UWA (and if you pass the NCLEX). A lot of people don't choose this option. UWA doesn't give a lot of student support nor does their advisors. So coming on to this site helped me a lot. Its a deserted town and a lot of people tend to leave after their second year, but i am choosing to stay because it's not competitive at all THANK GOD! You do have to drive sometimes a 2 hour drive to clinicals because everything is so far away from Livingston. Take any pre-reqs at a community college. Its accredited. You MUST have a B in all nursing and pre-nursing classes! A C IS FAILING! Which I really don't mind because I want to get into a great RN-MSN program anyway! Hope this helps someone!

When you say a B is required and a C is failing, do you mean you have to have a 75 to pass like all nursing programs in Alabama?

I know this post is over a year old but I just recently applied to UWA's nursing program and am anxiously waiting to see if I've been accepted. I made an 83 on the HESI and all A's and B's in the prereqs except for one C in APII. What do u think the chances are of me getting into the program? IM SO NERVOUS!

Yeah, I couldn't find any either when I applied and it was killing me! Thank you! You definitely should apply! If you call the nursing division and speak to someone about their program they are super helpful and will tell u what you need in order to get in.

I'm considering applying for fall 2018 , I am an LPN and was told there is a portion I could challenge. I an currently healing from cancer so thats put me behind but when I spoke to the advisor she said they were in the middle of readvising their program . Now thats been a couple of years ago because of my illness , all my lpn classes I passed with a 3.0 but some of my prerequisites were C's and at that time I was told this was perfectly ok , Does anyone have any advise for me?

for starters, congrats on kicking cancers butt! that amazing and i wish you a fast recovery. from my understanding, you do not have to attend certain clinical hours if you are an LPN because you have already had those hours as an LPN...on their website or in their nursing handbook you should find information on what it is that you would not have to take since you already have your LPN. if youre close by to the school i would totally recommend schedule an appiontment with Dr. Hanks. She can really help you out and tell you all that you need to know
