University of Texas at Arlington or Tyler?

Nursing Students NP Students

Hi,

I am applying to universities with online family nurse practitioner programs. I recently got accepted to UT Arlington. I have also applied to UT Tyler but will not know about acceptance until beginning of March. I was just wondering which of these universities gets you the best FNP education? Thanks!

Run from UTA. I'm in my last three classes in their on campus FNP. Started in the online FNP there. It is an utter cluster F that changes every semester. If they could figure out what they were doing then it might actually be decent. Spend your money anywhere but there. Trust me. I'm not alone - ask any other UTA FNP student.

That really sucks! I'm sorry to hear that. What changes every semester? Have you heard anything about UT Tyler's program?

Haven't heard anything about Tyler, but UTA is a no-go. If I could do it over I would have gone anywhere else.

When I started, we were required to take an elective... a semester or two in that went away.

I had to have all of the management courses completed before starting Family 1 (which I'm starting this coming spring finally) - unfortunately I had to drop one of them last fall.... they only offered Family 1 in the spring. That alone threw me an entire year late graduating.

Well, after that came to be, this spring they completely redid the degree plan and gave you the option of new plan or old plan. The new plan offers all classes all of the time, but would have meant repeating psych management, pedi management, and adult management (which I just completed) all mixed together in only two classes... How do you get good exposure to anything like that? If I moved to the new plan I would also have still graduated in 12/2017 (my current graduation date on the old program).

Everything is a cluster. There's zero difference between the online program and the on campus program aside from a couple of extra weeks in your class and you only come to class once per month (when you're past patho/pharm/assessment). Everything is still all online.

Also, for those of us in the "old plan" i feel like they don't know what to do with us. Adult mgmt was way easier than it's been for any class previously. I think they're just trying to push us through to be done with it to focus on the new plan... which they are tweaking/messing with too.

I hope that rant helped lol.

Oh wow! That does sound like a big mess. I'm sorry it's been a bad experience for you. I think I'm going to wait and see if I get into Tyler and go there lol. I know someone in Tyler's program and they love it. I didn't know too much about UTAs program. Thank you for all the information and advice!! Good luck with finishing your FNP!

I am finishing up a UT Tyler. It's a great school. You do not have to go to campus too often and when you do they give you the dates way in advance. This past semester I went on a Friday - Saturday in February and April. Teachers are all helpful. Get to know your classmates because they are great resources as well. Wherever you decide to attend my advice is to book your clinical sites in advance. In February of 2017 some people were already booked through early 2018.
