I just received my acceptance letter today for University of Rochester's Acclerated MSN program. I'm awaiting decisions from 6 other schools, but have to reply by Feb 2. which isn't much time Soooo...is anyone familiar with the school, region, program? I live in WI and would like to gather as much information as possible in making my decision.
So, any insight into Rochester NY and the University/nursing program would be excellent (the good, the bad, and the ugly -- and the great).
Thanks so much!!!

Contact the other 5 schools, and let them know you need to reply by February 2 to another school. Ask them if an early response to you is possible.

Congratulations on your acceptance! What track did you apply for? Also, I'm curious, how was your experience with them throughout the application process? I applied as well and they drive me nuts, they keep saying they'll arrange a phone interview soon and then drop the ball. Actually I took an online course through them as well and they were also extremely disorganized, so I'd say at the very least, their administration is terrible. That said, I've heard good things about the program itself and apparently Rochester is quite pretty though they have a fairly high crime rate.

Yeah, crime WAS a problem when I was an undergraduate there from '94-'98. It was normally centered downtown and not on the River Campus/Strong Memorial.
I applied for accelerated to FNP. I didn't have too many problems with them, every time I called, I got the answer that I was looking for without too much trouble. Waiting for them to set up a phone interview took a little longer than I would have liked, but I've come to learn that in this whole process, everything takes longer than you'd expect. I think part of what helped for me was that it was one of the first applications that I submitted, so everything was more organized on my end!

I know this is an old post but I'm wondering if anyone out there could answer some questions from a newly admitted U of R student (me!). I was accepted to their master's entry program (FNP track) beginning May 2010. As you know, the first year you spend getting your BSN. Years two and three you complete your masters.
My concern is that I'd actually like to take a year off after completing the BSN and try to work at Strong or Highland so that I can complete the masters portion at a discounted rate or free because the cost of doing the program all at once is very high...Has anyone out there done this, planning on doing it, or know someone who has? Among other things, I'm wondering how difficult this is to do and how long it takes to finish the MSN considering you are working...
Also, how has the program been for you this past year? Are you happy that you ended up at U of R?
Thanks in advance for any information you might have!

I grew up in Upstate NY, about an hour from Rochester. The University of Rochester is an excellent school and as part of the nursing program, you have access to some wonderful hospitals for your clinical-namely Strong Memorial. If I was still in Upstate, UofR would have been my choice for nursing school. But I am in New England now.
