Anyone applying for January 2013?
I am planning to apply that semester and am wondering if anyone else planning too? For my stats I have a bachelor's degree in biology with a 3.0 GPA (crappy I know, but this what happens when you become a Biology major, especially at a very prestigious and tough school like Stony Brook), but my pre-reqs from this school is def a 3.5+ and I have tons direct patient care + shadowing totaling over 1500 hours +. I have done CNA training and have a certificate, volunteered as a medical assistant in a few medical offices and have been observing numerous physicians, PA's in the past year in various offices. My original goal was a physician assistant, but I decided to drop it and plan on it later and opted for nursing. I definitely have the potential, know it, but with all this competition, sometimes I doubt myself if I can even get into a program. Anyway, I am PRAYING for luck and would be happy to get into school regardless of the expense! (will worry on that later)

I applied for the spring (Jan. 2013). I have been an acupuncturist for 12 years. I also have a Master's in Psychology and graduated with a GPA of 3.6. I had a GPA of 4.0 in Acupuncture. I just went back to school and had to redo A & P I and II and received an A & B, Mirco A, Organic Chem. I & II and got B's in both. I have 12 years patient care experience. I hope I get in but I don't know what other's background consist of? Good luck to everyone.

Hi guys! I have been searching for a Spring '13 forum and don't know how I missed this one! But anyways, did anyone get called for an interview? I had mine, and I think it went well, but like you said with all of the competition you never know =/ I have a Bachelor's in Psychology from Brockport with a 3.3 GPA, and experience working with individuals with mental illnesses, which should be a plus since I currently am interested in being a psych nurse. I am crossing my fingers but September is just so far away to find out if we got in!

Lovelylady12 I see you attended Brockport. May I ask why you are not applying to their program. The reason I ask is because I plan on applying to Brockport's RN-BSN program this sept.
Well to be honest, I not only would rather avoid taking the extra chemistry that I need to get into Brockport's program (lol), but I am just over driving 20 minutes to school, looking forever for parking unless you get there at the butt crack of dawn every morning, and walking long distances in the cold (depending what building each classes are in because they are not attached so you walk outside). It was not a bad school, but U of R's program would be great for me because I would get to do clinicals at Strong and this is where I would like to work once I get my RN. Plus, I would only have to do 12 months and since I already have my bachelor's in psych that would be ideal. Another thing is I am sure U of R would look better on a job application than if I went back to Brockport. If I don't get accepted to U of R I am totally fine with going to MCC and getting a 2 year associates for now and then just getting an RN job at Strong and doing their online RN to BSN program which is also one year which would then equal a total of 3 years for me to get my bsn. MCC is closer to where I live, and to be honest I have attended both MCC and Brockport and I like MCC WAY better. I'd say if you like Brockport go for it because I hear they have a great program, and it would make sense to get your bachelor's in 2 years instead of going to MCC for 2 years and getting an associates. Also, U of R is super expensive but like I said it is shorter and I would get in with Strong which is where I hope I can one day work! When is Brockport's deadline?
Thanks for your response & info lovelylady12!! I def understand I am currently a RN so I'm looking into RN-BSN programs & I looked into U Of R but Im going 2 be paying out of pocket so due to the expensive it was cut from my list (lol) but its def on my list for my MSN. I'm trying to attend Brockport's off campus site @ the metrocenter in downtown Rochester as I live in Buffalo & that would be much closer for me. The start date for applications taken @ least 4 the RN-BSN program is Sept 1 not sure of the actually deadline because I plan on mailing everything on Aug 30 lol. Good luck with U of R i know it's a very good school & I hv wrked with many nurses who hv worked @ Strong & they really enjoyed the experience & knowledge gained.

Hi Sgzen64,
You sound like you are a non-traditional student. I am a non-trad. student myself. My background is not as strong as yours. I applied for the spring 2013 cohort too. I have an undergrad degree in psychology. I am sure you will get in. Best of luck to you. Please stay in touch:cheers:. I will need a strong study partner like yourself.
Your welcome teelatice15 and I never thought of the downtown campus that is a good idea. I think you will like Brockport's program, and I hope you get in! I won't know if I got into U of R until September but I most likely will be posting it on here =) I wish we could get more people in this cohort to share on this forum, last semester and others prior had a good one going!
Thanks lovelady12 let's keep it going with any new info on each others progress :).....hopefully others who have been where we are @ will join in
