University of Pennsylvania Master's in Nursing (MSN/ MPN) 2024

Hi guys, I created a group for UPenn's MPN/MSN program. Good luck!

Hello! I applied to this program and had all of my materials marked received by 10/11/2023. I have a B.A in psychology, and want to pursue nursing now. I think this program is my top choice, and my selected MSN speciality is psychiatric mental health. I know we are guaranteed to hear back by mid-January, but has anyone heard back sooner? Is a formal interview required, or only in certain cases?

Hi @albo I submitted I think 2-3 days before the deadline. This program is also one of my top choices and I hope to get in. I applied for the FNP specialty. There is no interview that is why we did the video response/essay and we should for sure hear back in mid January.

Hey. I also applied for FNP. It seems that "competitive applicants" are brought in for an actual interview. At least that is what it says on the website and on the application. I went to some zooms penn hosted and they said February at the latest for acceptance notifications. The Lauder application would be around march if you applied for that.

@nwt0429 hmm... I did not see anything on their webiste about interviews and this was definitely not mentioned in their information sessions. If I can recall, they said that the video responses were in place of an interview. This is something that would have been mentioned and I attended like 3 or 4 information session and had discussion with admissions. Maybe this was done in the past. I also don't know how they would do interviews if they planned on notifying priority applicants by mid-janauary. I would think this month and next month is not enough time to review applications and do interviews (and set them up) before mid Jan.

This is copied straight from the website: "Competitive applicants will be invited to interview by the program faculty". The other years have all mentioned "informal interviews". Looks like probably just over zoom. The previous years seemed to all get final notice in February as well. I can't imagine a school like Penn not doing some kind of face to face. It's an Ivy graduate program. I could be wrong though...things change. I would very much like to talk with the faculty in a 1-1 setting anyway just to get a better  view of the program. I would certainly like to know my results asap and mid January would be fantastic. I'm also looking at this as a full time fall 2024 applicant.

I could've sworn they said no interviews. I will contact to confirm but other ivies have a nursing program with no interview. Columbia has a program with no interviews and never interviews as part of their application and Yale just stopped their interviews this year.

@Flower.1Let me know what they say, I'm game for whatever they want. It is what it is at the end of the day.

Not sure if you were in the info session that Penn just had but in case you weren't: it sounds like for the new MPN program the "interviews" are just the video recordings you submit with your application. They also just announced that they moved the general deadline to Feb 1. (Decisions will still be released in March.)

Yes the MPN/MSN program does not have interviews. You are correct the video essays are in place of the interview. That is what I was trying to say in my previous messages @NursingMentorPRN

Hi guys! do you think we should hear back by the 22nd if we applied priority?

Not December 22nd if that's what you mean! I reached out to UPenn and they said decisions will definitely be released mid-January for priority applicants.
