Does anyone know how long it takes to hear about an interview at the UofM School of Nursing for their AGACNP MSN program? Will they inform me if I don't get an interview? Thanks.

Please, I will be grateful if I can get assistance on the kind of questions I should expect during the interview for the University of Michigan AGACNP MSN program at Ann Arbor. I scheduled for the online option since I am not in Michigan.
Thanks
I'll start by saying, there are a couple of reasons you shouldn't worry too much. First, if you've made it to the interview, you are almost certainly in. The interview is just to make sure that they are making the right choice. Second, you'll be interviewed by the faculty from the AGACNP program and all of them are wonderful people. Some of them are a little quirky, but they are the best ones. They aren't going to try to trick you, and they aren't going to ask you crazy questions. If you come prepared it will feel more like a conversation than an interview.
The Questions:
They're going to ask you, why Acute Care? You should say something about wanting to care for complex, acutely ill patients.
Why adult-gero? Just be honest. You don't have peds experience or you are more comfortable with adults. Whatever your reason is, it's fine.
Why the University of Michigan? Again, be honest. If it's because you want the brand recognition after graduation, say that. If you want a brick and mortar program, say that. If you're a fan of the sports teams, say that. Just be honest.
They will ask you questions about what you think a nurse practitioner does. Understand that most RN's don't know the whole answer to that question because it is complicated and often not well understood. Here are a couple of points you could make:
- APRNs don't practice medicine, they practice advanced nursing. There is overlap, but they aren't the same. So, when you answer, remember that after you graduate you will still be a nurse providing advanced nursing care. Not a nurse practicing medicine.
- Look at the NONPF Nurse Practitioner core competencies found here: https://cdn.ymaws.com/www.nonpf.org/resource/resmgr/competencies/npcorecompetenciesfinal2012.pdf and incorporate them into your answers. Nurse practitioners are not just providers. We are leaders who change policy, create and implement new knowledge, use evidence in practice, are ethical, etc.
Your interviewers will be doctors and they will probably ask you why you are getting a Masters and not a doctorate. They will probably ask you if you plan on getting a doctorate in the future. It doesn't really matter how you answer, just be prepared for the question.
I hope this helps and congratulations.
If you have any more questions about anything at all, the school has a student group called the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners at UMSN (MICNP). They have is a mentoring committee that you can get involved in. They will answer all of your burning questions and help guide you through the program.
