Hey guys have anyone applied,OR went to UM that could possible give me some information on the entrance requirements and procedures....like GPA,Entrance test,interview,etc...and I heard that you cant repeat any of your pre-req course..is that true ?

I've been trying to get info on them too, on the generic B.S.N. program...as of now the only thing i know is that they accept 200 Students in fall only, & you must apply before December. I tried calling to get more info..and my call got routed like 4 times and then ended up with the operator again..until i finally spoke to someone. I also emailed a "Ms.Cabrera" that seems to be too busy to answer phone calls..she's like the adviser for the program...I might go by to visit them soon, so i can update you on their requirements. Are you looking at any other schools?

I am looking at other schools...I havent been calling around yet cause I im still finishing up my pre-reqs but Nova is the main one I have my eyes there is no entrance test just a very stressful interview and the first semester is this Advance anatomy and physiology class I feel that class will see who has what it takes...I heard its really hard.

btw most schools like FIU, Barry, Nova, and FAU (not sure about UM) do not let you fail science classes.. In Miami-Dade, "All Options are required to have no more than a total of three (3) grades of D, F, or W in the natural science courses for the program. All Options are required to have no more than two (2) enrollments (D, F, or W) for any individual science course for the program."

I had my heart set on NOVA too, less pre-reqs than UM..but i heard it's EXTREMELY competitive to get into..but def. worth the try; we can do it! The actual nursing program is a little longer than the others..but i guess once you're in the nursing program, there's nothing to worry about. :)

and on the UM website i just found that it says "To be considered for admission and/or progression for clinical course work, students are allowed to repeat only 1 prerequisite course."

OMG!!! I saw that to!!!! I have had my share of repeats :) lol...the amount of classes I have withdraw from and repeat I wouldnt be qualified....I had to retake English 2x and Anatomy once....so I probally wont make it, but im still gonna try I have heard that they are much easier to get into as long as you have the classes and minimum requirement then your good....I have also heard from a former Nova student that Nova is really not that competitive has they seem...think about it they are a very expensive private school so they are not getting as much applicants as most public university same for UM....Nova wants qualified students but they are not that focus on GPA because you can be a 4.0 student but doesnt really have the nursing drive...and thats what the interview is for to see if youre really passionate about nursing and to see if youre willing to put your all in the school work... so if you can go through the interview with confidents and showing how much you want this then you will be fine I know people who got in with 3.0 GPA because they shine in the interview.... so with that said Nova is my first choice (My First Baby :) lol)

Really?!?!? That's fantastic! I thought they wouldn't take me anywhere with my 2 C's in micro + lab...what a relief..for now haha...And i bet you'll make it to nursing school! :nurse:

i graduated um in 2004 and alot has changed. yes, they got a beautiful new building and an infusion of funds. they lost alot of wonderful professors and the feeling of the place is different. money issues have affected everyone including higher education, most assuredly, private schools. however, there is something to be very proud of graduating from um. it is not a "get over", they do not just accept you out of hand if you only have the pre-requisites and the funds to attend. um is gaining strength, prestige and notariety in the world of science, medicine and education. they cannot afford to just accept "anyone" or to loosen their requirements too much because, in the end, that will cost them more in reputation and money.

the interviewing process is more stringent now. you cannot just bs your way through the essay. nursing is not for the faint hearted or those that are just in this for a paycheck. security is not even assured in these days of tightening budgets and crashing markets. all private universities are not created equal. i got my masters from another private university and though it too was a wonderful experience, the two cannot be compared. money is an issue now more than before. banks are not loaning people funds for "higher education" as liberally as before and when they do, beware of the fine print and the interest rates the decision to become a nurse has many parts to it. and the part of that decision where you decide where to get youreducation is not a simple one either. where ever you decide to go, make the best of it and get the most from it because you will never experience anything like it ever again.:heartbeat

is there an entrance test for the BSN program at University of Miami? such as, the HESI OR TEAS test? or do you automically progress to the nursing program as long as you meet the required GPA without having to take any entrance test? any input would be appreciated....
