University of Hawaii Manoa 2013 MEPN Program

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Just started the app for this school's program. Anyone else thinking of applying here? I'm pretty annoyed at how expensive the application is: $100 for the grad school and $65 for the NursingCAS application system! This will be one of my fallback schools in case I don't get into my favorites...but the surf life and the tropical breeze does sound very very appealing! Also, anyone know anything about this school's reputation?

Thanks!

Sam

@mrobinson69600 Thank you for the quick response! I have been so paranoid about that. Good luck to you and I hope you get in as well :) If you hear anything else feel free to pm me or post it on here. I will really appreciate it! -Lalida

Sure NP! The NursingCAS people seemed to handle things very quickly on their end and even told me on the phone not to worry and just breathe lol!

Also did you get my last private message?

Also I saw your comments about finding a place. I would go to Trulia.com and do a search. We have an excellent bus system so don't worry so much about transportation. There are lot's of places to rent here too. But be aware of the higher cost involved. If you want to ask a local about an apartment or area you are interested in I am at your disposal just pm me.

Hi my name is Marlina. I am applying to the UH MEPN dual Advanced Public Health and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program. I am a little worried that my application won't be processed in time has anyone received a conformation e-mail yet? Also I will receive a BS in Community Health at the end of this school year. What is everyone else majoring in?

Just finished editing my Youtube video and now I'm just waiting on my last LOR. That Youtube video was hanging over my head like a dark cloud.

Did everyone else get an e-mail on Nov 2nd about their application status? They just reminded me of the things I was missing. I kind of re-read the UH website again and I'm kind of confused about their acceptance of people to the FNP program who aren't from the islands....is that true from what others have read? If so then all this work and $$$ was for nothing since I'm coming from California.

Thoughts?

@Samdaman Is what true? From what I know they do a good job at accepting an equal amount of in and out of state students but they do want students who are planning on staying in Hawaii and working there since a lot of the things you learn are specific to that region.

Is it true that only people from Hawaii are considered for the FNP specialty....am I reading this correctly???

Nurse Practitioner & Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist Tracks

  • NP: focus is diagnosing and treating
  • NP, ACNS, or NP/Public Health combo track includes didactic (in-class & online) and clinical hours
  • Must be in Hawaii (outer island is ok)

Public Health Tracks

  • Advanced Public Health Nursing without an NP component is online
  • Student may be out-of-state
  • Didactic and projects include online live seminars
  • No graduate clinical hours in APHN track

Nursing Executive Leadership and Nursing Executive Leadership with MBA Tracks

  • Requires additional admission to Shidler College of Business (www.shidler.hawaii.edu)
  • Nursing Executive Leadership or combo Nursing Executive Leadership/MBA tracks include on-campus didactic and online courses
  • Admission to MEPN does not imply admission to Shidler.
  • Admission to Shidler requires GMAT exam scores.
  • MBA classes are taken through the UH School of Business
  • NEL/MBA students receive 2 master’s degrees in the end

@Samdaman you're reading it wrong. That is talking about while you are in the program. The reason it says may be out of state for Advanced Public Health Nursing is because it's an online based program so you can do the program while out of state. For FNP and PNP you must be in the state because you have to do the classes in Hawaii on campus. Basically you can be an out of state student to get accepted, you just have to move to Hawaii while you are doing the program. Hope that helps :)

Yep. She is right! So don't worry about that. :) You just got to get out here when the program starts.

cool, thanks folks!

Did anyone hear back yet? I still have not and think that might mean it's a no go. They have viewed my video about a week ago so I figured they would have let me know if I had been accepted by now. :( The anticipation is sooooo distracting for me.
