Hi there, I'm going to be applying to Colleges this Fall and I was wondering how good is the nursing program at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa). I would also like to know some tips for applying to the program to better my chances of getting into the program. Any Help would be greatly appreciated, thank you! And if you know of any other public universities with an exceptional nursing program, that would be good to know too! :)

I go to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and our nursing program is ranked number 21 in the nation by U.S. News! It's highly competitive, an exhilarating challenge, and the faculty is amazing. In pre-nursing, our anatomy lab gave us the unique privilege of working with human cadavers and that experience has been invaluable. There is a huge support network set up there for student nurses and an open communication program for pre-nursing majors to be mentored by current nursing students. The opportunity to get real answers about your concerns has been extremely helpful in making decisions in my personal life as well as my academic career.
Tips for UAB- take all your sciences from UAB (or whichever university you should chose), and preferably all your pre-reqs. My school's feelings on this are because they know that if you were "trained" at UAB, you will be prepared for UAB's rigorous nursing program and won't end up dropping out after the 1st semester.
Keep your GPA up by scheduling one science per semester so you aren't swamped with coursework.
Get active in your community: volunteer, shadow nurses, and/or seek employment in the medical field.
Lastly, do some honest soul searching and make sure that you're seeking a BSN for the right reasons. If it's truly your calling then working hard academically, giving your time to your community while testing the water about service in which type of population is most rewarding to you, and always seeking the best education and training will all come naturally.
Good luck to you in all your future endeavors!
