I am having to take a MAT test in October to start my MSN/FNP classes in January. I had the option to take it instead of the GRE. Wish they would waive this requirement for those of us who are a little long in the tooth. Don't know how well I will do on the MAT. I've done some practice tests online and don't have a clue as to how this will let them know whether I will pass the MSN courses. Doesn't make much sense to me.
It may have been some sort of trend chaundrah, I just found this on the website of University of Michigan at Ann Arbor:
"Applicants whose GPA from an accredited baccalaureate program in nursing is 3.25 or higher do not need to take the GRE for admissions to the Master's Program. Should GRE scores have been taken previously, they will not be considered if the GPA meets the minimum 3.25 criteria. GRE scores are required for all Master's applicants who do not meet this criterion and for all PhD applicants. The report should be sent to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor"
I know that the University of Pennsylvania is also dropping the GRE and I believe Thomas Jefferson University is also. I think its a good idea since some people get good grades, yet are terrible at those tests.

I just realized that University of Maryland has dropped the GRE requirement for their MSN programs. They do not believe that the GRE's adequately or directly reflect one's ability to succeed in a Master's of Nursing program.
Has anyone heard of any other Universities doing this? I wonder if this will become a trend. IMO, I hope so. I was dreading that GRE.
