Univ. of Phoenix MSN option in Education- can you teach at University?

Published

I want to go back to school to get my MSN w/ option in Nursing Education. I'm looking into the University of Phoenix in reaching this goal. Im thinking about getting the degree online because it's more flexible for me. I know you need to have an MSN in order to teach at the University level- can you teach at this level if you obtain your MSN online? Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

Yes you can! I am currently attending the PhD in nursing at the Univ. of Phoenix.

Almost all nursing schools offer online programs. You need to consider where you want to teach before going to a school. UOP is quite a bit more expensive than my in-state school. Also, many schools wouldn't hire a PhD grad from UOP. They wouldnt even grant an interview. I am starting a phd program next month, and have just finished my DNP. Don't attend any school that doesn't openly display the required plan of study, or a school where the only entry requirement is ability to pay tuition. If they require personal contact information before supplying information, avoid them. If you want to teach at the graduate level at a respected school then choose an online program attached to a brick and mortar school, no one will know it is online. In-state schools are generally cheaper than many online only schools. My DNP was 14,000 dollars. Most online only schools were much more expensive.
