don't sweat it Linda. I am a nurse-ish. Thick skin. And honestly Essiemarie, as nurses, our job description should be being lied to on a regular basis. It isn't the first time and will not be the last. I have... had a list of preceptors from my school in California. I will try to locate it this week and post it here. Sory I mentioned it before but life took over.

I've learned a few things since meeting you. I am afraid to ask for a preceptor site. I stepped out of my comfort zone today. I contacted someone who has been saying they would precept me and send me the paperwork since November. I have followed up four times since that point. But today I decided to follow up again. I ended up talking to the office manager. The short story is that she got me my preceptor agreement in 10 minutes. The long story is that a couple of hours later I heard from the nurse practitioner and she apologized for taking so long to respond to me. I asked what day would be best next week to bring the office lunch. I know it's not what you did. But it was in keeping with my comfort zone I guess. So next week I am bringing the entire office Panera for lunch. And I have the signed agreement and all the other paperwork. So even though I doubted your approach, it definitely worked. I seem to have a lot to learn. So thank you for making me step outside of my comfort zone and stretch myself. You have some great advice that is worth listening to and I misjudged you and I'm sorry.

Linda

Hi, I am interested in the FNP program at U.S. University. I have read all of your posts. However, I live in New York State. When I called the school, I was told that NYS does not allow clinical practices to be done in NYS, for this school. I would have to relocate to CT., NJ., or PA., to do my clinical practice. My question is, is any anyone else here in the FNP program, from NY? Thank you for any advice that you can offer. My email is: [email protected].

Hey I’m from NY (don’t live there anymore) but I do attend USU and they don’t accept students from that state. So like you said you would have to move to go to this school, think the school goes by whatever address you put as your home address.  NYS State is very strict on online NP programs I believe there is only like 5 distance learning programs approved for the state...Eastern Carolina, Frontier (I think they are actually waiting for their paperwork to renew so they are not currently accepting students from NY), Stony Brook, and I don’t remember the rest.  Hope this helps.

I thank all of you for your comments. This program probably won’t work for me. I live on Long Island. To bad. It seems like a good fit otherwise. The cost certainly does. It’s crazy how much other programs cost. I am calling NYS Nursing this morning to see what they say. Otherwise, the program is doable for all of you?

Hey congrats Linda. I am so happy for u! Let me know if I can help. Someday I may need your help. We all have strengths. #bsafe

If I were you I would text the ffice manager a quick msg. "red or white?" and hand the offoce manager a nice bottle when u bring lunch, off to the side. Thanks her and let her know how grateful you are. Ask her if u can connect with thier previous students and connect with them and get a list of the their previous preceptors in the area. It may take a few weeks to remond her and chase therm down but u have a few months. Just be consciencious and understand she hold the cards to your finishing. Be good to this connection.  That way u can leverage your one connection and branch out to finish your 5 sites from this one connections. Whatever it takes be bold and ask. Most people want to helpyou. If they can. Just ask for help.

KD44, have you thought of writing a "preceptor finding: How to"?  You think so outside the typical nursing box, and it seems to work. Your recommendations could have saved me years of stress and trial and error.  I admit at first I too was leery of paying a provider, but when you are going to a school that is costing so little, it really isn't a big deal.  The stress is the big deal!  I was afraid of offending preceptors by offering money/gifts.  Now I know they are not offended, they appreciate being appreciated in a monetary way for the added time they spend and the constant interruption to their regular flow that having a student entails.

You could just take the notes you have put in here already and polish them into a "if... then...". I'd use your notes to create a guide, but I think you deserve the recognition for your tactics.  I will share your thoughts with all new students I come across from now on.  Just can't wait for the last two terms to be done.

Thx Nansho...nah im sure I got the info from somewhere/someone and just passing it forward. im just lazy so I have to be efficient. and I when I want something I first ask myself... "what does this dude want?" is it money, appreciation... if u have eve r watched the movie Seven w/ Pitt and ZFreeman... everone usually has one or more of those vices. just find it and grease the wheels. and ask ask ask 4 help. people love to help...everyone soo desperate for dopamine/seratonin these days just wanna feell good about themselves. the whole world is either narc or co-dep... figure out which and u will enjoy the interaction better bc u will get what u want easier.

Oh... and just for clarity...I always use money first as the lowest common denominator bc sometimes its safer for people to keep thier secret vices to them selves....and sometimes I just don't care enough read that person. If its short term thingy... But if money doesnt work. Do a vice analysis. If the next vice doesnt work. They may not like u and move on the next perosn or opp.

Hello all! Anyone have any advice for USU MSN570 pathophysiology class? I will be starting it next week. It was a class I had trouble with in undergrad. Any tips or resources would be much appreciated! Thanks so much ?

I am not opposed to paying. I just think the University should be honest that you will have to pay your preceptor. I talked with the University many times before I started that I was concerned about finding a preceptor and every time they told me if I could not locate one they would as long as I was willing to drive. I think they should just say you will need to find your own preceptor so people don’t rely on the school as an option. I would be more than happy if someone had a recommendation in the Sacramento area that I had to pay for.

EssieMarie,

I managed to find the California preceptor list I posted about. It's from 2017. Do you still want it. I can create a G-drive link. I don't want to post the entire list on the board. It might piss off the Dr offices. Anyways....lmk how to get it to you? I has a bunch near Sac-town.

I tried to send u a private message attachment but there is no send button?!?

Here is the g-drive link.
