Unit Secretary interview-advice?

Hello everyone!

I have an interview next Thursday at a big hospital to be a unit secretary on neuroprogessive. I have no hospital experience and I haven't even started real nursing school yet (this fall!!), so I am nervous! Does anyone have any advice for me as far as the interview goes? Or even advice for if I get the job? I'm afraid they will take one look at me and decide I can't cut it because despite being 21, I look really young, but I'm sure once I open my mouth and they see I'm competent then they will ignore this...hopefully.

I know it is for nights, but I think it is pool. I've never worked at night before. Another thing I am worried about is my sister just bought me a ticket to fly to Boston July 13-18 (thurs-tues), should I tell them this upfront or wait until I am offered the position? Do you think this could affect my chances of keeping the job if they find out I will be gone for 5 days?

I'm worried and I would appreciate any advice!

Thank you.

I think that as long as you dress professionally you will be taken seriously. Wear a suit if you have one. I look very young and always just try to dress according to my age vs my appearance.

ALso, just to play devil's advocate---why not go for a tech job so you can get some hands on experience before school starts? It will give you a great deal of confidence when you enter nursing school and get you a step ahead.

Good luck! :)

Oh, and remember after the interview, SEND A THANK YOU CARD (via snail mail, not email) and tell them how excited you are to be a candidate.

I vote for being upfront. "I can start immediately but I have a previous committment July 14 -18"

Thanks for responding. I actually did apply for PCT position, but since I have no experience with patients, the HR guy looked for a different position for me, and this is what he got me!:)

Thank you for the advice.
