Unfair Dismissal

Published

Can anyone tell me what me legal rights are? I am an LPN student in Georgia 2 weeks away from graduation. I applied to the college in 2005. In 2006, I received a letter saying "Congratulations, you have met the requirements for admission and have been accepted to begin classes in the Practical Nursing Program for the Summer Quarter, July 6, 2006." I have made a lot of sacrifices to be in the program, indepted to my family, exhausted my VA educational benefits, counting down the weeks and looking forward to graduation. Then 2 weeks before final exams, only to be called up and be told that I am being dismissed from the program because I am an immigrant and I should have had my high school diploma evaluated to see if it was equavalent to the US high school diploma or done the GED before admissions into the program. Now tell me, whose fault is this? Why am I being made to suffer because of what the Admissions staff was supposed to do and they did not? Until we either do the GED or have our high school diploma evaluated then we cant come back and that means we would have to repeat the 5th level. (It happened to 3 of us.) I also know for a fact that this has happened before, but others were made to continue and finish the program then go back to get the correct paperwork in order to graduate. Why couldn't they make the same provisions for us? I am so distraught, angry :angryfire, I dont know what to do. Can someone give me some advice? Thank you.

I'm sorry about your situation, but we can't provide legal advice. Best bet would be to contact a lawyer skilled in these situations.
