If I've overlooked any prior posts regarding this, I apologise. I wasn't able to find anything using search within the forums.
Anyhow, the program at UNF will be *officially* accredited in June, and the first class will start in August. However, since the application and interview process for that first class takes place now, before they are officially accredited and able to advertise, the number of applicants has been few and solely based upon word-of-mouth. (23 applications for 16 seats, I believe). I'm one of said applicants, and without being too presumptuous, I think there's a pretty fair chance of an interview and was looking for advice.
The program is essentially a transplant of the Jacksonville option that was previously at FIU (Florida Internation University) in south florida. The director of the UNF program used to work at FIU, and so I'm thinking that it will most likely be similar to that program.
Anyone with advice that has undergone the FIU CRNA admission interview process?

Hello, I would think that an interview is likely. Did you go to UNF for undergrad? I have applied also. This whole process in nerve racking! I have not heard anything on how the interview process will be handled, or what kind of questions will be asked. Have you heard anything? I am hoping that we all will get an interview or even get in the program for that matter, since there are so few of us. I will keep my fingers crossed.
Actually, I was a two year grad, and I did my RN-BSN at UNF. I agree, I think they'll interview everyone who meets the "minimum" requirements... (1yr CC, 1000 GRE, and 3.0 GPA) However, I doubt they'll let anyone in who's even close to minimum on all three or 2/3 unless they amaze them in the interview or something. Hard to say.
I did chat with one of the instructors today who mentioned that she'll be on the interview panel, and that they "hadn't discussed the specifics of the format." I'm not sure what to make of that though... I think it would be prudent to be real fresh on CCRN type material in case they throw any scenarios at you, etc.

I heard the number is up to 46 applicants for 20 positions, not all from florida. Still sounds like good odds for you though, eh? What was the original program out of Miami like?
Yes, actually I did end up hearing that number as well the other day... funny. I think they had a lot of applicants up near the deadline.
I don't really know much about the FIU program, which I guess was the main reason for the initial post... fishing for anyone who knows about the admission process there.
Has anyone received an interview letter yet?
I haven't, and of several applicants I know, no one has. I'll post as soon as I get something.

Hello everyone-this is my first post and I have a few more inside tips for the UNF prospective students posting here. I have also applied to UNF's first class and am more than excited to start. I am actually doing a shadow day tomorrow at Shand's at 0630 and it is 1120 at night now, so this may seem a bit short. I spoke with the dean of nursing today-3/2/06-and she said they were making the final decisions on who would get the interview and will be mailing the letters out either on 3/3 or 3/4. I was told there was a total of 47 applicants for the year, but did not get a very clear answer if the applications were all complete (some people have not yet taken the GRE). I was told the interview process was more than likely to be a panel from 5-7 people from the UNF nursing staff, CRNAs, and maybe a few other speakers. I was told they could ask you WHATEVER they want to-why you want to be a CRNA? financial status/plans, previous experiences and clinical questions based on your questions, marital status and stability, or anything they can think of. I am relieved to see this many posts on UNF's new program. I have already met 6 or so applicants for this program and am excited to get to meet you all in person. There is 20 spots for this program, but I know next year it is going to be a beast to get into the program. The program director did indeed set up FIU's program as well as 2-3 others I've been told. This is going to be on grueling experience-92 credits-that is probably one of the highest in the country, but it will be worth it when we are that much closer to getting our DNP. Super stoked!! I'm a little nervous about the interview, but am confident I will gain one of the 20 seats. Still, that leaves 19 seats for the rest of you gents/ladies. Good luck to all and I may have more specific answers if you have any specific questions for me! I now have a solid 5 hours to sleep before shadowing (I live in Nassau County). Later-I enjoyed making my first post!
I got my interview invitation today! Certified mail, thin envelope.
I'm looking forward to it, and I hope we can find out soon afterwards if we're in or not.
Good luck! I am sure you will do well. Think CRNA!
I got my interview letter too!!!!
Yup, me too!!! :balloons:
