Hey guy, I am a new grad and having a heck of a time finding my first job. I have recently in the last month moved to a big city because there are more jobs here then in the small town in which I came from. I have networked, attended church, gone to the gym, volunteered at multiple places, and nothing seems to work. My resume is immaculate as is my cover letter, but still I donot even receive interviews. What am I doing wrong? I am this close to go back to bartending and leave this four year education in my dust!

Try looking for a corrections position. Many times correctional facilities will hire new grads because of the need vs. the applicants. Also, try looking at Concentra or US Healthworks-they would take new grads, and they are nationwide for occ health. Look under local providers of occupationa health for clinics. Look in clinics! Many people search hospitals and that is all. Look under public health for the county/city. The jobs are out there!

I feel your pain! I was laid off with 4 other RNS 2 months ago. I have been an RN for 38yrs full-time, and I can't get arrested. I try to keep busy, but I get really restless to work! I have done so much computer work for my searches that I feel more like a secretary than a nurse. Healthcare institutions are looking for employees who cost less to employ, and we are too near the top of the food chain to hire, when they can make do with and LVN or aide.

Are you receiving Unemployment? If not, get it!! Never give up! You have your youth and school experience (I graduated in 1972),will eventually get you a job-just keep at it. It is tougher for "Oldies" like me! Keep calling employers back, too! Good Luck, Unemployed After 38 Years.

I quit my job almost three months ago and I can't even get an interview. I have 32 years of experience. I sent out one resume to a hospital in my area and they send me back an email that said "we do not have anything for someone with your varied experience". How about that? Most of the hospitals in my area will not accept applications except by email. I have probably 30 applications out and have only had 2 interviews so far. So good luck.

I think, also, that boomers (myself included) are beginning to feel that "age discrimination" thing that we always heard so much about. It is here, and it is real. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...........

And perpetrated on boomers by other boomers looking out only for themselves.. how ironic..

The most selfish, self serving generation in the history of the world.. :p
