Undergrad in UK, MSN in USA?

Published

Hello!

I have tried finding a relevant post to my question without any luck. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my schooling options.

I currently wish to pursue my BSN overseas (U.K.). I have read, primarily on this forum, that trying to find work in the US after receiving education abroad is pretty difficult. My plan is to come back to the US to get my MSN to become an NP.

Are we there any foreseeable complications with this plan? Is this feasible in terms of allowing me to live/ study internationally as well as remaining marketable in the US?

Very difficult to train as a nurse in the UK due to current ways things are done. Not many places do International students and those that do will be expensive. If you are successful in finding a university I would suggest you ensure they do both clinical and theory hours for you in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult as missing hours will result in you not meeting state requirements and being able to advance further in the US

The UK nursing degree is specialized (adult, peds, psych, or community), whereas the US degree is generalized (teaches everything). Because of this, you wouldn't be able to have the appropriate clinical hours and theory in order to even be eligible to take the NCLEX.

TBH, it's much easier to go from US-->UK than UK-->US, especially now that the NMC changed the rules on how they admit internationally trained nurses.
