Undecided in which LVN school to attend?

U.S.A. California

hello everyone i am new to the forum. i wanted to know which are the best lvn programs in orange county area? i am undecided in between american career college in anaheim and also thinking of pacific college in costa mesa. i also wanted to know if just doing the pre reqs at a community college is best and just wait to be accepted into the rn program. the only thing about community colleges is the wait and i am turning 31 next month. i mean it would be different if i were 18. i would appreciate any suggestions. thank so much. :)

You are still young! I laughed when I read your comment about your age. There are people that go back to school at age 50, so you still have a long career ahead of you in nursing. You're never too old to go back to school.

I'm not going to say go straight for your RN because I did the LVN first and then now I'm waiting to get accepted into a LVN-RN program. Going the LVN route was right for me and I'm glad I did it. I didn't want to wait in order to get into the RN program and that's why I did the LVN first. Sometimes people act like it's a sin to go the LVN route first, and they act like you'll never go for your RN. Some other people are just content being a LVN and they have no intentions of getting their RN, but the option is there if they chose to do so. So you do what you feel is right for you. Good Luck

Thank you for your response. By the way is it hard to get a job as lvn without any experience. Some people suggested to get a CNA license first to get experience. Also coudl you please let me know if you did your pre requsites before you got your lvn license. Thanks

I was only missing microbiology when I applied to the LVN program. Yes, finding a job after obtaining your license is hard. Most employers don't want to pay to train you so they want you to have experience. Of course we're all having issues finding jobs. But luckily someone was willing to give me the chance and now I'm gaining experience. If you have the opportunity to get your CNA first I strongly suggest you do it because you will learn so much from it. Good Luck

Thanks for all your advice. YOu have been a really help.:)

I sooo understand your dilemma. I am halfway through an RN program, and had to stop cause I have to work full time..I have kids and we need food on our table. I am choosing to do an LVN program at this stage, and then do and LVN-BSN program online...The wait is longer now at most community colleges- and most aren't even taking transfers now, and I have put so many years into doing my prereqs...I just don't want to give up. I would suggest you doing the same. Community College programs are soooo impacted, but what disgusted me is the amount of cheating that went on at the school I attended. So, pay the 30 grand, and get your LVN first- that experience will help you once you are the RN...so many of my classmates who failed out the program are doing the same now.

When I started out doing my prereqs, this option wasn't available, or if it was, it wasn't accessible to me. Good luck! And remember your spirit when giving care. I hope my bad experience helps you.... ;)

In our program there was cheating going on too. Those people didn't finish the program and I purposely called one out in the middle of an exam, did that shock the instructor and the student. I got pulled aside and was informed that next time if I suspected cheating that I needed to come to her or any other instructor. I responded by telling her that I did but nothing seemed to be done and I was tired of studying hard for an 88% and someone cheating and getting a 97%. She thanked me, and we left it at that. As I said those that cheated never did finish the program, and even if they do, they wont pass the NCLEX because you can't cheat your way through that.

:yeah: So true! None of the "student nurses" that were cheating in first semester passed. They all, except one, failed, and that one person doesn't realize that although they may be able to pass the NCLEX, their name and reputation in the community of nursing is called, "cheater". Nursing Supervisors all over the community know the names of MOST of the cheaters at this school My rule is if you cheat in school, you'll cheat on your charting, you'll write down fake vital signs, you say you gave it when you didn't...the list just goes on because to me it's spiritual sepsis.

A girl wrote notes on her skirt once in between the floral pattern of the fabric and got busted during a test...how embarrassing!:jester:

One of my instructors calls nursing students who cheat, "killers"....

Where do these people come from? I have been a PCA for 15 years, and have really seen some bad nursing, and you can always tell who was cheating in school.
