UMSON BSN Fall 2013

U.S.A. Maryland

Hello everyone! It's my first time posting on this website. Just wanted to see who else is applying for the BSN program for Fall 2013? Any advice for new applicants? :)

Me1988 - Your 60% TEAS score is not a good one but if it is a total aberration from the rest of your application, it won't automatically reject you. It will depend on your competition. Nermface - For those of you who receive a provisional offer of admission, you are guaranteed your seat IF you receive all B's on any transcripts for courses you had not completed by the application deadline. One C could definitely cause you to lose your seat.

Do we also have to receive all B's even if the classes we are taking are not requirements for the Nursing school? I'm taking Physics 2, Biomechanics, and an EKG class, but I'm a little worried about physics :\

I'm getting pretty nervous. I am wondering if the Fall 2013 applicant pool is more or less competitive then previous semesters...?

No way to tell for sure. The school has the right to rescind your offer if you do not earn all Bs. Period. They would likely do that if you are considered borderline, that is, if you just barely made it. They would also look at the applicants who are also close and compare your application packet against them. However, it would also be considered that you are carrying a heavy load. In any case, there are so many good applicants that there is no issue about filling all the seats. Some applicants have delayed sending in their last transcripts in the hope that the last bad grade will not hurt them because there won't be enough time to admit someone else. Very bad strategy. They will not be rewarded for it as it somewhat indicates a measure of dishonesty. Please get that B.

Hi Grey Lady,

I'm wondering about the length of UMSON's program. Is it possible to do it in less than 2 years? Is there a summer option? Or are classes only offered in fall and spring?

Thanks!

Elisha

Did anyone else apply to the RN -> BSN online program at UMSON?

Normally nursing schools accept you as a class. So you all follow the same track and take the clinicals and classes at the same time. If they let us take summer classes we would get ahead of the rest of the graduating class and so most schools don't offer that option unless you apply to an accelerated BSN which is normally open to students already holding a different bachelors degree

Hey, west0807, thanks for the info! I've actually already been accepted to a few different ABSNs (I do already have my degree). The UMSON BSN is specifically offered to students who already have their BSN, as well as to students who do not, and a time period for completion is not clarified. (The website merely states that we must finished within 5 years of matriculation). I really want to make the right decision, since UMSON is a great school, but I can't spend too much time in nursing school as my husband will be pursuing his PhD.

For the BSN students at UM, summer is only half the length of a normal semester. Students may take one or two courses in the summer but that is not enough to make up a whole semester so they cannot graduate any earlier - although it does lighten the load for the next semester.

Is anyone 'Committee ready' yet? My status still hasn't changed yet.

Grey Lady,

I re-applied to University of Maryland at Shady Grove campus for the fall semester. I know we hear back this month mid-April. I have a couple of questions for you.

1) Which hospitals does the Shady Grove campus do their clinicals at?

2) Can we choose which hospitals we do our clinicals at or is that determined by the professors?

3) Is there any way you could tell us how many students applied for the fall semester so I could get an idea of what my chances are of getting in?

I am so nervous to hear back. I already got accepted at Stevenson University but it is so expensive. I really hope I get into Shady Grove campus as it is closer to home and much cheaper.

My status hasn't changed yet either. However, I haven't been too worried about that because one of the posts from Grey Lady stated that there really is no difference to the students regarding the committee ready status versus the complete and ready for review status, but that it is more for administrative purposes.
