UMDNJ Accelerated Second BSN

I don't know anything about UMDNJ, but I just wanted to say congrats!

Anyone hear from them yet?? Does anyone have any idea WHEN?! NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!!! I'm going crazy.

I don't know what I'll do if I get in either. After getting rejected from William Paterson, I was really depressed, then the acceptances started with Fairleigh Dickinson, and then HOPKINS (my alma mater):balloons:. So it'll ultimately be between Hopkins and UMDNJ, #1 hospital vs Not, Baltimore vs Close to home, EXPENSIVE $$$ vs NOT...Any input?

Save your money. I would go with UMDNJ. You don't need the "name" school. Just get the nursing education and then pass the NCLEX (national nursing boards). PM me if you want to know more.

Hi there! a good friend of mine went to UMDNJ for the accelerated nursing degree program. The program itself is not excellent but more than enough to pass the NCLEX. He's about to take his NCLEX end of this month, btw. Ill update you on that.

As for your problem, i agree with the post above. Save your money with the BSN... its not much of a deal where you graduate as long as you pass the NCLEX. Just go for the big name when you're taking your masters. Thats what I would do. Thats what my friend is planning to do.

The thing is that I'm accepted to the BSN/MSN program at Hopkins, so the name kind of does matter. I mean even if I wasn't, isn't there a difference if I get the opportunity to work at the #1 hospital in the country versus Robert Wood Johnson (I don't know where it ranks)??

Even though it's a lot of money, it'll be great for opportunity. Hopkins has a great Children's Hospital, which is the area my Masters will be in anyway. But UMDNJ has a great one too, so I don't know. I did apply to the BSN there, but the MSN isn't guaranteed at UMDNJ, I don't think.

I also still haven't heard from UMDNJ, so jumping the gun again...But I'm kind of assuming that if I got into JHU, I'll get in, but I also didn't get into William Paterson, so I don't know.

I guess I'll be devils advocate here. I would would go with JHU. Excellent school and your master's is guranteed. I would also recommend JHU if you are going into more of the academic side of Nursing. JHU's name will go a long way and the connections that you make there.

As far UMDNJ, I have heard mixed reviews about the school. Another thing, even after you go through the BSN and hate the school then you have to reapply to for masters programs. All that essay writing, interviewing and waiting to see if you got in all over again. Lastly, a lot of the top MSN programs will require you to have atleast 1 yr of experience after getting a BSN before applying to their Masters program.

Therefore, if you got into DE program that guarantees you the masters after the BSN then why not go for it. IMHO, its worth the extra money to have that add security.

For UMDNJ, I know it's not a Direct Entry to MS, but do I really have to reapply? That's a dealbreaker then.

But I don't think that UMDNJ requires the experience beforehand though.

I've heard mixed reviews too...JHU's my alma mater so I know how it is there firsthand. Not necessarily the Nursing School, but I have some idea at least. I guess it is leaning more towards Hopkins.
