Are you a student or a graduate from the University of Maryland School of Nursing? If you are, can you please tell me about your experience thus far?
I desperately want to transfer because I just think that it's more exciting there but I'm not sure if it really is. I'm in my first semester of nursing and I just want to compare how your clinical is to mine. So far, we've done a lot of hands on and I've done a bunch of IM's and SQ's, NG meds, PO meds, AM care.
What have you guys done so far? Pls let me know! I really want to apply but I just want to know if it's worth it. I think UMB is a great nursing school but I wana hear from its students. After your first semester or after graduating, do you feel confident enough in the hospital setting? Got a lot of hands on experience?
Thanks!

I'm about to finish my first semester and I honestly have nothing bad to say about the program. I absolutely love it and can't imagine myself being anywhere else. I came from a very large university and coming here has made me realize how helpful and great lab can really be. I just finished my labs recently and when my lab instructor gave me a hug, I couldn't hold back the tears! It's so much easier to get closer to your instructors here than where I came from...and this is coming from a very soft spoken person. I feel that all the staff there really cares about their students and want nothing more but to help them pass and advance their career in nursing.
I know I haven't really said much about the program besides sugar coating and buttering it up... but I'm really not exaggerating!
I'm currently in the middle of my clinicals and that's very hands on as well. I'm placed at a nursing home and I have to say I haven't done anything I've learned in lab so far besides head to toe assessments, vital signs, bathing, and making beds. But that's just me, I've heard my other classmates have placed in catheters, measure I/O, dressings, etc. Also, my roommate's acute care unit backed out on them at the last minute so they've been placed in a Med.Surge unit instead...and they were exposed to some intense stuff. I haven't done as much but there's no rush cause I know it'll eventually come. Once we start Med surge/Adult health everything will be 100x the pace.
As of right now I feel very competent in where I am. I'm still new and if you place me in some type trauma situation I will no doubt freak out... But they place you in an acute setting to begin with to help build up your confidence with patient interaction and being in an actual clinical setting in general.
I'm a little bit curious. I had an understanding that we are to NEVER give out meds. You had the chance to do NG/PO meds?
