I have recently joined this website as I am desperate for advice. I am a UK nurse looking to move to the USA, I have a BN (hons) in Adult Nursing and a Post Grad qualification in Emergency Nursing. The process of applying seems very long (visa mainly?) and I am finding the process quite confusing. I see from reading most topics that people recommend not to go through an agency. I have set up an account with the CGFNS. In terms of the NCLEX is it best to self educate through books and sit the exam independently or is there somewhere specific to receive help? What is the best way to start the process? Is it to apply and sit the NCLEX, then complete the CGFNS? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Jess

You are not applying to to write the NCLEX, but rather applying for a nursing license. Passing the NCLEX is just part of the process. You need to contact the BON in the state in which you want to work. They will have information on how to apply. You must meet their requirements before they will give you permission to write the NCLEX. Be aware that US nurses are generalist trained and you will need theory and clinical hours in adult, peds, OB/GYN and mental health on your transcript. Many UK nurses depending on their education do not meet this requirement. You will also have to determine which visa you qualify for. If it's a Green Card you are looking at around 6 years.
