Hi I'm a final year student nurse studying for my degree here in London. After about 2 years experience on a ward I'd like to move to New York, I'm here to ask if anyone has done this or if not New York, moved from the UK to any other state in the US to work as a nurse. If so, could any of you point me in the right direction/give me a rough guide on what steps need to be taken? What I'm wondering about the most is the required obstetrics and child nursing experience needed (I do the adult branch). How did you go about getting this and how much of it do you need exactly?
Thanks for any help

You will probably be looking at a longer time frame that 2 years as a lot will depend on finding a employer in the NY state willing to pay $$$ and wait for you to get a immigrant visa when there are many US nurses struggling to find work
US training requires Clinical and Theory hours in Paeds, Obstetrics, Mental Health and Adult. When I registered with NY I had 75 hours clinical and theory hours in Mental Health and Obstetrics and had no issues meeting requirements. Currently no place in the UK is offering make up courses so you would have to look at other places like somewhere in the US which we have seen has been very hard
Thanks SilverDragon, it sounds like a lot of work but no doubt it must be very worth it
I am working in Canada and love what I do... I also get paid better than I would in the UK and from what i have seen I get paid better than some states.
Good luck in your journey
