I'm a UK trained mental health nurse with 9 years experience looking to move to western Canada. I understand the process of needing to get my training / qualifications transferred but I'm wondering how easy it is to get jobs even with that, do they have to offer to Canadian nurses first? I.e I would only stand a chance at positions they cannot fill. Can someone please advise?

Canadian nursing employers do not need to recruit from offshore as there are enough local qualified applicants. If an internationally educated nurse is licensed, living in and legally qualified to work in Canada, than their application will be given the same consideration as a Canadian nurse's application.
Thank you for your reply. So if I have a visa under the federal skilled occupation list potential employers would not need to apply for LMIA before offering me a position?

If you have a work permit or permanent residency status that allows you to live and work in Canada then employer does not need to apply for anything
Thank you. So do you need a job offer to get a visa under the federal skills worker? The fact that nurses are on the list suggests a shortage however employers seem to be saying the opposite and that a positive LMIA is still required and does not happen. Sorry but am very confused í ½í¸
Most IENs immigrate as skilled workers, if you go this route, suggest you take all the necessary steps to become licensed pre-arrival.
My understanding is if you have a job offer it increases your points for the express route. If this is the case then you will need LMIA that the employer has to do.
Have you checked out the CIC website?
Oh and also agree with Dishes, get registration sorted first as the process is long and most employers will ask that you either have passed the national exam or have eligibility to sit it
